WBHB "Country Legends " goes Spanish

Feliz Navidad ! Harrisonburg's Country Legends 105.1 FM went all Spanish a week or so ago. It was only a matter of time before one of the five country stations in the small Harrisonburg radio market , bit the dust !!!

Spanish FM comes to... Harrisonburg?

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Last week, we reported that VerStandig's "Country Legends 105.1" Bridgewater/Harrisonburg changed its call letters from WBHB-FM to WTGD on Monday, December 1st. Well, there was a reason why. The station jettisoned the Classic Country format for Bustos Media's Spanish Top 40, La Gran D ("The Great D") which targets 18-34 year old Latinos.

With the new format launching at midnight Tuesday morning, this gives Vox Communications' "Real Country 96.9" WSIG Mount Jackson/Winchester/Harrisonburg the lone Classic Country formatted station on FM in the Harrisonburg market.

Even though they do appear in the Winchester book, WSIG actually is a very tough catch to pick up in Winchester. OK in areas south of the city like Stephens City but in downtown Winchester or to the north ( Clearbrook and Stephenson )..forget it ! ! !

There was a time when WSIG ( when they had their studios in Mount Jackson ) flat out refused to have anything to do with Winchester. When I worked at SIG, not only did they refuse to accept advertising from Winchester area businesses but whenever someone from Frederick County, VA ( Winchester )would call us up for a request, we were under orders to give them the phone number to Winchester's WUSQ Q102 instead.

Yet WSIG appears in the book in Winchester. Makes no sense.
