WBIN cancels 10PM newscast

interesting shift back to paid programming inthe mornings again. Interesting to note more different programming on the weekends, crook and chase?? isn't that from rtv???

I wonder if this is the first move towards a possible sale of WBIN-50.

I suspect Trinity Broadcasting Network would be very interested in buying the station so it can get TBN's 24/7 religious programming on Boston-area cable systems via "must carry" rules.

Binnie sold his LPTV in Nashua to a speculator for a nice profit earlier this year; he may be conserving cash in anticipation of another flip.

Please don't give TBN any ideas. We don't need the Crouches, Hinn, et al spewing the prosperity gospel up here.

looks like Sinclair will buy WBIN 50 soon enough.

Don't give them any ideas, either.

I think WBIN-TV's news was 'outsourced' to the Independent News Network (INN) out of Davenport, IA. I only watched it once and it was decidedly 'amateur'-you could tell it wasn't produced in the New England area. In addition, annoying graphics/scrolls literally took up about 1/3 of the screen.

I think Binnie is in over his head with both his TV and Radio operations. He basically inherited a lot of stations which were unprofitable for Nassau. Additionally, the TV operation has been focused on Boston for years, where they are a decidedly a minor player.

I don't picture TBN acquiring WBIN. They are also in financial trouble, but who knows. If Sinclair or another big media conglomorate took over, they would problably look for a major network affiliation. The Boston stations would probably block it.

WBIN is no longer listed as an affiliate on the INN website. Either they're ready to roll with their own newscast (which has been promised since Binnie bought the station) or there's a cash flow problem. No great loss, as there wasn't a lot of New Hampshire content and the audience got confused when they saw someone other than Al Kaprelian doing weather.

No way! We don't want that Total Blasphemy Network that Paul and Jan Crouch operate out of California!

Define "we." And can anyone seriously argue that Sinclair would be a worse owner for WBIN than Binnie? At least Sinclair would have the clout to upgrade the syndicated programming.

I'm not sure about financial trouble (ironic that this post is written while their spring fundraising appeal/prosperity gospel pimp-a-thon is ongoing), but most of us are aware of TBN's recent legal issues and associated Crouch family infighting.

And, Boston is one of the few large markets where TBN has a coverage hole (there are others, San Francisco and Washington are also in the top-10) and they are also still expanding their terrestrial reach, so nothing is impossible. However, I don't see their type of Christianity going over well in heavily-Catholic and Episcopal New England.

Yet TBN had enough to buy WRBJ in Jackson, Mississippi, a CW affiliate owned by the bankrupt Roberts Broadcasting, though they're still waiting to close the deal.

I wouldn't count out WBIN relaunching news when the Concord facility is up and running.

But if that was the case, wouldn't WBIN have announced that their local newscasts were being suspended for a few weeks rather than being cancelled??

The timetable for getting Concord up and running is more than a few weeks; in fact, it's barely in the planning stages. The situation in Davenport may have forced their hand to suspend their news operation rather than have a smooth transition to live and local. One reporter remains employed by the station; I don't know if that person is doing local cut-ins on The Daily Buzz.
