WBIN-TV Switch

It seems Antenna TV is gone from 50.1, and that Justice Network has shifted from 66.5 to 50.1, with 66.5 being eliminated. So sad!!

I have to assume that this change is just a temporary one. I knew that Antenna TV was.....(sadly)....going away at some point, but I am unclear about what the ultimate goal is for the WBIN license.

Does anyone know if Channel 66's ownership has control of the WBIN license yet?

I would think that, since Justice Network was previously airing on 66.5, Univision has now assumed control of WBIN-TV's license. It does seem odd that they would purchase WBIN-TV's license just to move Justice Network over there. So perhaps that will move to 50.2 at some point and be replaced with something else on 50.1?

The advantage to using 50.1, is that it retains the must-carry rights on cable and satellite, that it had as separate OTA signal. Univision must have made a better financial deal with Justice Network, then they could with AntennaTV. Justice may be paying well to be on the must-carry channel.

Next thing to watch for is to see if AntennaTV lands somewhere else in the market.

Right, the must-carry rights on cable are really the purpose of Univision buying another license and setting up the channel-sharing agreement. That's why it seems odd to me to put Justice Network on it. But perhaps, like you said, Justice Network is making it worth their while...or perhaps, it's parked there while they have other future plans for the channel?

I received a reply from AntennaTV acknowledging that WBIN was sold and that AntennaTV was dropped. AntennaTV is looking for a new affiliate in the Boston/Manchester market ASAP.

My guess is that Justice is just parked there until Univision finalizes plans for WBIN. And Justice must be more financially attractive than Antenna TV. I’m also guessing that there is something financially unattractive about Antenna in general, since it took them a long time to get into Boston to begin with, and since Antenna hasn’t been able to make a deal with another station in the 8 months since WBIN announced it was selling its spectrum.

I have a feeling that our best chance to see Antenna TV in the Boston area again is if the Sinclair/Tribune merger goes through. Sinclair-owned WJAR in Providence could then replace MeTV with Antenna once they own Antenna outright.

I agree. I think Sinclair has MeTV on a number of its local stations. It would be logical that it would replace MeTV with Antenna TV once those affiliation agreements end, assuming that the merger is completed. That won't really be of much help for most cable viewers in the Boston market. However, with WJAR's proposed signal boost, it should cover a large chunk of the market over-the-air.

wbin ➜ wwje

Looks like they changed CALLs to match programming?: WWJE (“JusticE network”?)

As if the FCC doesn't have enough to do already!....OY!

If you guys think THAT FCC filing was on the frivolous side....get a load of THIS one:

WPXQ in Block Island has an app pending for a COL change to Newport.....but with absolutely NO technical / facilities changes whatsoever!
Makes you think to yourself: "Why bother?".

Univision had to change the WBIN call letters, since Bill Binney did not include them in the sale, except for temporary use. Changing to WWJE seems to indicate Univision is going to keep Justice Network there (unfortunately...).

WPXQ may be planning to request a transmitter site relocation when the re-pack hits the Providence market (even though they are not required to change anything) and may be doing the first steps. Their request to change the city of license reads like a real estate promotion of life in Newport:

I wasn't aware that the calls did not come with WBIN as part of the deal. Now it makes sense to me.

"Their request to change the city of license reads like a real estate promotion of life in Newport" Funny you should say that. I was thinking the same thing as I was reading through the app. Great reading if you're trying to fall asleep...:D

Your theory on the WPXQ app for the COL change is probably spot-on. I've heard of radio stations doing "move-ins" in two or more steps.....so why couldn't a TV station do it?

Since the spectrum sharing with WLWC started.....I've felt that WPXQ can't legitimately cover WLWC's licensed service area from its Hopkinton, RI transmitter site, and signal pattern.

The ONE most logical landing spot for the two stations would be the Citadel Communications tower in Tiverton, RI.....current home of WKKB-100.3, future home of RIPR's WXNI-89.3, and former home of WTEV/WLNE.

For the past few days, channel 50.1 has been airing Grit (same as 66.4) when I tune in on the converter box connected to my living room TV. However, it has been airing Justice Network when I tune in on the converter box connected to my bedroom TV.

I looked at the signal with TSReader. One thing doesn't seem right, but could be OK. Both 66-4 and 50-1 have the same video ESPID: 0x0061 (66-1 is 0x0031, 66-2 is 0x0041, 66-3 is 0x0051).

In the Philly metro, Univision bought WMGM down in Wildwood, NJ. They have Justice on 40.1. They have Get TV on the .2 and the Philly Univision station simulcast in HD on the .3. Get TV moved over from their Univision station that left the air and is now channel sharing with the Tribune station in Philly. The Wildwood station does not make it up here over the air but, I still have Get TV on FiOS. Univision must be sending it up to Philly via fiber. I’ll bet the next thing is that they’ll be asking must carry for Justice on 40.1 on Verizon, Comcast, DirecTv and Dish soon in the Philly metro. WMGM is that small NBC affiliate that Comcast pulled a few years ago to protect O/O WCAU.

WBIN-TV again with a blank signal

Again WBIN-TV has a blank signal and with no programming listed on Titan TV.

I have had no video/no audio/no program listings, despite receiving a powerful signal, on one of my TVs for at least a few weeks now, whereas everything is normal on my other TV. Something is wrong in their transmission and they haven't resolved it.

I've been having the exact same problem, but I just assumed it was because my decoder box is ancient (still running since 2002!).

The problem is ONLY WBIN. The screen simply reads "NO SIGNAL"....even though all the other RF-27 channels are coming in.

As pointed out earlier, it seems the signal is there, just hiding behind a bad ESPID code.
An interesting quirk, is (at least with my Insignia converter box) when you first click on the channel, the ID and program schedule will show correctly for about a second and a half, then drop to the "No Signal" message!
Also, sometimes when I'm flipping by either virt-50 or 66, the virtuals will switch to their rf-27 channel number and WBIN will be in fine as 27-6, but then disappear again as "No Signal" when the channels revert to their virtual assignments, a few seconds later!
