Who knows the inside on this? FOX 43 to dump WATE this month for WBIR content at 10PM. WBIR will also pick up HD. WBIR also plans to go one hour long on FOX 43 later this spring. Plus do a morning news show.
I saw this the other day. That makes almost 9 hours of local programming a day for the WBIR news dept. Pretty impressive! I wonder if Channel 6 will cut a deal with CW20 to do a 10pm newscast to compete? Also Channel 8 could always do one as well on sister station "MyVLT2".

Simple situation where two stations had a problem and found a joint solution to fix both. Fox Network wants affiliates to have local news at more than just 10 PM nationwide. WBIR needed to go HD to fend off WVLT. WBIR signs up to replace WATE by agreeing to produce morning news in addition to the 10PM news on WTNZ and with the cash they're getting for that, corporate approved spending that money to go HD. Now everyone's happy, except WATE, of course.
