WBJB in Belmar

Near main street and 16th ave and several blocks around it in Belmar, 90.5 completely cuts out. I assume this is because of WRAT's transmitter?

Hmmm. Maybe. Maybe not. If WBJB were located on a frequency somewhere in the middle of the FM dial it would be a lot more likely. Does anything else on your radio get blocked out in that part of Belmar? WPLJ? Hot 97? If not, then the Rat isn't your problem.

Immediately next to WRAT's transmitter (18th & Main) the entire FM dial gets cut out. I even had my FM Modulator cut out 88.1 while stopped at the light there. So it is likely that WRAT is causing interference, but like the other poster said, not definitely.

Blanketing

What you are experiencing is "blanketing". It occurs when a strong, local FM signal "pumps" the AGC in your receiver, reducing its sensitivity and causing all but the strongest signals to drop out. Some FM receivers are more resistant to blanketing than others, so WBJB may come in beautifully at that spot on one radio and be inaudible on other radios. It is not the fault of the local station.
