Since moving from LI a few years ago, I've only listened to the station maybe every 3 weeks or so when I'm back...
Regarding Dana, it seems like she fits in good with Harper. Obviously it was going to take some time for people to get used to her on the morning show since Maria was there for...what, 9 years? All in all, she is a good fit. I could do without Big Gay Randy - voice is terribly annoying and the gimmic was ok..for a week. Then again, I'm not in the target demo.
The rest of the staff sounds solid - Levine has been there forever and knows his stuff and sounds great; Wendy has kicked ass and seems to have a good listener base in the few years she has done nights/days/nights; Even the part timers are solid. This shows a job well done by JJ in training and mentoring his staff.
The music mix is pretty good - there are a handfull (or maybe a few fingers full) of things I would change, but its still not bad. Imaging, Tony has done a nice job, alot of stations have really boring packages, but BLI's is solid.
All of that being said, I don't sence any "excitement" or buzz about what's on the air. As Long Island's #1 CHR/TOP 40, there should be some street buzz - "Hey, did you hear what the morning show on BLI said this morning" or "I heard this new hot song this afternoon on BLI". Z100/NY has the "buzz". Q102/Philly & Wired 96.5/Philly has the "buzz". I just don't sence the "buzz" on BLI. Maybe they don't need it - as long as they can sell the spots, all is good - but imagine what the ratings could/would be if they did?
