I was thinking to myself i know WBLK is in the top 5 in the ratings because their the only urban powerhouse in Buffalo but i feel if there was a second urban station they would switch up a little because i feel tom joyner morning show should not be on a station that target demo is 18-34. I feel this way because tom joyner is mostly on Urban Ac stations around the country so for 4 hours i could see listeners being confuse on why they hear so much old school r&b songs. My other opinion is i feel they should put a female voice in the weekday lineup that connect with the african american women in the buffalo area, and i wish they would bring back mid-day, 5pm mixshowduring the weekdays. i know regent commuications which owns WBLK dont really have money but i wish they could make the station more interactive for their target demo, and for the colleges in the area. www.wblk.com

CBS doesn't own WBLK anymore? I agree about the Tom Joyner thing. Tom is old school, not hip hop. Do WBLK daypart?

CBS sold WBLK to Regent Communications in 2006
6am-10am Tom Joyner
10am-2pm- Chris roynolds (PD)
2pm-6pm Mr Magic
6pm-10pm- Mike Chaz 9:00pm mixshow with DJ wolf

I think WBLK sounds pretty good. They remind me of the "full-service" urbans back in the day. There are still some stations in smaller towns that have the dayparted model with gospel in the morning, urban ac/southern r and b in the day and hip hop at night. V-103 Atlanta is pretty heavily dayparted and sounds pretty good also in my opinion. 60 miles away, WDKX in Rochester still follows a similar model and of course Urban AC WPHR is the only urban in the Syracuse market.

While there are gospel stations (such as WUFO) and Urban Oldies (WWWS) basically, there is no urban AC in Buffalo either so I think WBLK is trying to be both the Urban AC and the younger Urban for the market. The dayparting is not only TJMS but the midday show as well, lots of urban AC and dusties on that show you would never hear on a younger leaning hip hop station. Anyway, I rather like it, reminds me of the stations 20 years ago. I am also aging into the older demographic. Don't forget WBLK in the mid-90s for awhile was entirely Urban AC, some of the same staff from that era are still at the station. It is hard to believe, but for a brief period in the mid-90s, WBLK had an allnight talk show! I have fond memories of the Sunday classics and Debbie Hayes (if I remember her name correctly) hosted nightly Quiet Storm what a classy show!, sure beat what we had up in Toronto where I lived at the time.

I understand where you coming from now since there is no full blown urban AC in Buffalo. i cant lie atleast WBLK targets the younger demo on friday and saturday nights on their mixshow.
