WBMA-LD 58 Birmingham

FINALLY! A reliable OTA digital signal from ABC33/40

Wikipedia says they switched from RF-11 to RF-40 back in May, but I only found out about it tonight, since I never saw a mention of it on the station themselves.

Has anyone heard any word as to when and if the other B'ham LPTVs plan to convert to digital?

Speaking strictly of stations licensed to Birmingham proper...

4 - W04BG - permit for new LP digital station

2 mtv2 - WBXA - permit to DTV-12
28 Daystar - WBUN - permit to DTV-27
34 HSC - W34BI - permit to DTV-20
46 // WTJP - W46DK - permit to DTV-31
49 religious - W49AY - no plans
62 // WTTO - W62BG - no plans

I have no idea when any of these stations plan to build out their permits. (nor *if* they plan to build out)

@w9wi

W49AY has been on RF 47 for several years, having moved there to protect the digital signal of WBRC 6 (RF 50). I get a strong signal from them but with heavy QRM from adjacent W46DK. Their radio station (which they sometimes relay) has mentioned converting the TV signal to digital during their share-a-thons but hasn't set a date for it. Most likely they'll stay in analog until forced to flash cut.

I can't verify that WBXA is still operational. I live less than a mile from their alleged transmitter site and though it's directional away from me, I used to be able to get a signal from them but haven't seen a trace in years. (Are any of the MTV2 OTA affiliates still carrying that feed?)

Wikipedia lists WBXA as an affiliate of the "All Wrestling Network" whatever that is. Nothing online about that at all.

The last time I personally verified a signal from channel 2 was with a portable TV in the parking lot below the tx site on Red Mountain. It was weak even there. That was probably in the mid to late 90's.

I remember while visiting my family in the Birmingham area in the spring, when ABC 33/40 was airing some type of promo describing the rerouting of the digital signal for WBMA-LD from channel 40 to virtual channel 58.
