WBML "Nail It Down Club"

I was looking through some stuff last night, and I still have the "Nail It Down Club" lapel pin (gold painted carpet tack) from the 1960's.
I think I have the membership card (#1088, if I recall) somewhere, too.

Anybody else still have theirs? How about similar radio "club" memorabilia?
(I'll bet there are a few old passes to the Weis Drive-In in my junk back in Macon.)

You should donate old radio stuff to the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame. They have quite a collection of memorabilia and I hear they may have a museum at some point. Are you a member?

I don't have the "Nail" lapel pin but I do have several WBML "heart" stickers, a $3,000 dollar button from a 1976 promotion, a few 45's from the station's record library and a sign from control room one. I also have a 1961 Midas Muffler spot recorded on disc by the legendary Don King. As you may know, Midas Muffler got its start in Macon around 1960.
I would love to donate some of this, or all of it to the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame but the last time I tried to donate the Midas recording, it was never used. So why bother?

Is that the lighted "Status" sign?
I was trying to remember exactly what was on those panels..."Red TX On Air", "Blue TX On Air", "White TX On Air", "EBS" (or was it "CONELRAD"?), "Door Alarm", etc.

I'm trying to draw a floor plan of the old building.

The Georgia Radio Hall of Fame and Museum has a backlog of material and not everything will make it to the web site. It will however be preserved for future generations. We apologize if your contribution has not yet made it to the online audio archives. There is so much material and so few volunteers to do the work. We sincerely appreciate your contribution and will search for it. Are you a member?

Kenglish, it is the "Control Rm. 1 On Air" sign. grhof, I'll take your word for it. I'll go ahead and sign up, then pass along some of the archival material I have. Since I can't take it with me when the man calls, I would love to see it preserved.

Saw a post on the "Engineering" board about Gates consoles, so I looked for photos.....
Found this:

http://www.oldradio.com/archives/hardware/gates-st.htm

Do any of you 'BML alumni remember for sure which boards were in which rooms at the "Peek-A-Blue" building?

I've got a Gates board, "on-hold" downstairs, which I think is the model used in WBML's main control room. It's waiting for someone at GRHOF or the GMHOF to want to buiild a 60's replica control room.

Ken, our plans call for exactly what you have described. Hang on to that board! Look forward to receiving your membership application.

Don't know if it's the exact model, but I have a Gatesway 80 mono board with no power supply, and I think I might be able to get another one WITH power supply, plus I see a 16" Gates turntable in there, too.

We'd need a couple of 12 inch'ers, and a set of the old, old, old RCA Cart Machines. Also, a short, blue Bud rack and a "cart tree". ;D

I hope kenglish doesn't fall prey to the siren sound of Ebay. Donate to whomever will share these relics or preserve them. There are also boards who'd love to have you upload MP3's of the audio content from WBML. The same goes for pictures of the buttons and other regalia. Of course the items will be GRHOF's protected property once in their possession so it may not be kosher to post any images or copies elsewhere.

Glad to know that. I'll have to look at some photos and see how different they are.

I wonder if the old RCA 77-DX microphones are still kicking around. They were at the Reese Street transmitter site in 1978. Somebody offered them to me, but I disassembled them, and the magnets were totally destroyed. I won't even think about the shape of the ribbons, themselves. They had been determined to be "trash", and were used for bowling pins.

Did Stubby have them mounted on booms, or on articulated arms back then?

I'd love to have an old RCA 77-DX, working or not. To me, they symbolize radio. I wish there were a cool story to explain why this might be so, but there isn't. I could make one up,, I suppose ....

I have picked up a couple on Ebay for a pretty decent price. They have come down since then. Might want to keep an eye over there for one.
