From WBNG-TV's website:

Granite Broadcasting to Buy WBNG-TV
Granite's Chief Executive Officer W. Don Cornwall said, "WBNG-TV is a very strong station with a long history as the market's leading news provider".

He says the purchase compliments Granite's other upstate TV stations in Syracuse and Buffalo.

The company operates a total of 20 TV stations in eight cities, including San Francisco and Detroit.

The sale needs approval from the Federal Communications Commission, but it's expected to be finalized in the second quarter.

WBNG-TV is currently owned by Television Station Group Holdings.

From the horror stories I have heard about Granite, WBNG is screwed. Granite makes Nexstar look like a godsend. Good luck to the folks at WBNG. You're going to need it.

At least Granite does HD broadcasts on their stations, SJL has WBNG on the air with nothing but SD, and at the same time was very reluctant to grant waivers so people could import the HD signals from New York City over satellite.

Since when can Granite afford to buy anything? I thought they were on the verge of bankruptcy for awhile, with no help from loser stations like WTVH.

This could be WIVT's big chance!

Yes, but that money was supposed to pay down their enormous debt load. Most people also think that Granite sold San Fran and Detroit for far less than they are worth.
