WBNG turns 60...and nothing?

As I turn the page on my Tower Site Calendar to December, I note that Tuesday's a red-letter day - the 60th anniversary of TV's debut in both Binghamton (WNBF-TV, now WBNG) and Utica (WKTV). WKTV has a nice anniversary section of its website, and some nifty promos that have been running on the air.

Any of you Binghamton folks (radio or TV) see any indication at all that WBNG is taking notice of its anniversary? There's nothing on their website.

The TV and radio market has gotten uglier. When I was living here, I happen to be in the Metro Center when the ACA shooting took place, and the "local" coverage I seen was from News 10 Now on TWC. Nothing from WBNG, WBGH, WICZ. WNBF-AM's Bob Joseph did 100 times better than any of the TV stations combined.

Holy crap... THIS is their NBC affiliate?

Yeah, WBGH is the local NBC affiliate, believe it or not. I ran Master Control weeknights from 4 or so in the afternoon till 12:35 in the morning, back in late 1998 and early 1999. That was when the entire station was operating just off the Vestal Parkway, just across the Binghamton city line on the Vestal side. The budget for equipment was actually fairly good, and though what we had was often second-hand, it was well maintained. We always tried to run the most professsional operation we could. Fun job and good co-workers, though my boss drove me nuts (personal conflicts, not job-related ones).

I guess what I'm surprised at is the fact that a cable signal has to substantiate as an NBC affiliate in such a market. But hey, I guess it's better than nothing after WICZ dropped NBC for Fox!
