WBNR going all news???

I heard a jingle this morning on WBNR that referenced an "all news " network; also they stated that a Kingston station (WGHQ??) was now part of those simulcasts; but this afternoon it was the Timeless classics format...think there was a post to this effect a while back?? Anybody know any more about this?? If 'BNR went all news that would make zero stations that play deep oldies all day. As I have said before, the oldies format is up for grabs in thie market.....

Meaningful Discussion???

WGHQ will be getting an all-news station since last year since the CC buyout of the News/Talk station, now with WKIP is still up and running since October and it is still a News/Talk station. WLNA will also get an all-news format very soon.

Warm590, we mentioned many times that oldies is up for grab. If WBPM is going nowhere, maybe HV will get a "Greatest Hits" format like CBS-FM did. Well see what happens.

Producing their own news while a great idea and would certainly fill a hole in the Hudson Valley it is very expensive. It is something I would like to see. However, The news departments at most stations around here are almost nonexistent. Do to the high cost factor, and broadcasters’ unwillingness to spend money ,especially on AM stations what would they use as a source for most of their programming, a simulcast of CNN Headline news? It’s too bad there is no radio specific news network like NBC had back in the 70’s and was used locally by 950 WHPN, Hyde Park.

Nah, they would use a satellite service; there's plenty of them out there that aren't in use in this area...The days of a local full time news staff like the days of old are pretty much finished. Sure would hate to see "BNR switch; their programming is right on the money now :'(

more discussion???

When WKIP flipped, I thought it was a bad move, they had found a niche and were getting some ratings, about a 2 but, I guess the demos are wrong. Heck we can't even get an oldies station in the Poughkeepsie market .The 3 station network, WBNR, WLNA, and WGHQ does fill in the standards format nicely, especially since WKIP doesn't play them anymore. We don't need a station that relies almost entirely on a satellite but one that provides a substantial local news service would be great. They could use the network for world, and national events and sports. However I know this will never happen because of the cost factors and the essential elimination of local news staffs. So I doubt WBNR etc. will flip .It just a rumor floating around. That's ok though at least it brings some life to this board.

Not switching formats is good by me; but the legal ID at 9 am says "all news all day"...must be like a 1/2*ss simulcast for morning drive. I like it the way it is!!!

Except "Kingston Community Radio" (or KCR) which is on from 7-9 AM. Maybe standards/oldies "Timeless Favorites for the rest of the day.

I don't know if you noticed but Diz posts on boards all over the country. There is now a shortage of Advil and similar remedies. Sorry . 686 posts and counting and not one point!
