I was told by a reliable radio source who's been in contact with management at WBNR, they will be dropping their Music Format very soon...new format is currently under the covers as the radio source would not
divulge any information on the new format.
Your say WBNR is dropping their music format makes it sound like they are dropping music altogether, not just changing to a different music format. I am no fan of standards but since they were dropped by WKIP a few weeks ago you might think WBNR, and more so WGHQ, if they were included would receive a bit of a bump in ratings, during the daylight hours anyway. WBNR as did WKIP previously had talk before and nobody listened. It would be a complete waste of a frequency and electricity. I don’t know how far WKIP exclusivity extends but they already have several of the big ‘ names’ .The way companies run their AM stations , just keeping the transmitters warm , the economic sense would be to include WGHQ and WLNA in the change . Someone said in another thread a while back that PAMAL has the best news department in the area, not a big claim, since most stations have basically abandoned their news operations. Could they be thinking of changing to all news? If they do all news I would think it would make sense to add WLNA and WGHQ to cover most of the Hudson Valley and spread out the cost even though most of the programming would likely be a simulcast feed from CNN or some other national source.
