WBNW

My name is Alex Reimer, and I am 16 years old.  I host the "Alex Reimer Show," which airs every Saturday from 4-5 PM on WBNW.  I have been hosting the show since late March of this year.

I have also hosted my Red Sox podcast, "Without a Curse," since July of 2005.  I have been profiled in The Boston Globe and been a guest on both "The Today Show" and "The Tonight Show" for my work on the podcast.

I just thought I'd chime in here, and state that while yes, WBNW's signal doesn't cover a large area, I have had little problem picking it up throughout the Metrowest area (Needham, Newton, Natick, Wellesley, Wayland, etc).  I also have a few listeners who routinely listen to my show in Brookline, and say that the signal comes in pretty good.

There a lot of local "small sized" radio stations in Boston, but in my opinion, what sets WBNW apart, is that unlike others, it has flagship shows with recognizable talent and is run by individuals who are hungry and love the business.  Plus, several of the hosts contribute to other areas of the station too.

"Money Matters" with Barry Armstrong, which now has a spin-off Sunday night show on WRKO, and an afternoon edition on WBNW is obviously the straw that stirs the drink.  And the other weekday morning financial shows on the station are also widely listened to and well known, as they draw off the "Money Matters" brand.

But the morning sports show hosted by Joey Murr, and the afternoon drive sports show hosted by Danny Picard in my opinion are clear alternatives to what you will hear elsewhere.  Plus, I firmly believe that my sports show from 4-5 every Saturday is superior to what you will hear elsewhere in that time slot, which is really all that you can do.

So yes, WBNW's signal is not great, but compared to other stations in its class, it has far more local programming and is well run by people who care.  Plus, it also has sister-stations that simulcast its programming, such as 1390 AM Plymouth and 970 AM Southbridge.

Despite some of the signal issues, from 6am-8am the signal is good.As far as ratings go I track website hits from those hours and people are listening. Also all the programming during weekdays is local as well as weekends. I have worked at 3 other radio stations and WBNW does a really nice job. As a host, the station has benefits that other stations couldn't offer as far as their production team, web casts etc... OF course I'm a client of the station and you wouldn't expect me to knock the station, but from the owner all the way down to the board ops and cleaning lady, Its a good operation.......

This is the perspective of someone who works there...not the perspective of a listener.

Plus, the signal is not good....and not suited to it's purpose of providing financial information to Boston. The signal is good if you live in the boonies.....but not in Boston....where it takes extra effort that most would not bother with.

(I have a hard time even believing that the station is performing to the parameters that this map is drawn from.)

And it's not even on the daytime pattern from 6A to 6P...it's only on this pattern during the daylight hours. In the winter months that could means 7:15P to 4:15PM.

You call yourself a "client" of the radio station....and not an employee. The client/employee status of the people on the air is disturbing. Which is it?

As far as being all local...the schedule lists Rachel Maddow.......thats not a local program.

I'm glad to hear that everyone who works there is nice. And it's understandable that you are a cheerleader for the station you are involved with.
Wow Don Juan, it's seems that no matter what is said you can spin it to your liking.....yeah, you can make sense of it with your words. But why is it not ok to say something nice about a place you work or a "client" of if that's how you truly feel.......I hate to say it Don Juan but it appears that words from you may be more part of the problem than the solution. If you're thinking everyone else is being dishonest with their words, why should any of us trust yours??? :-*

Nothing at all. I would expect nothing less of someone who feels good about their place of employment.

I have nothing to do with WBNW. I don't know anyone that wokrs there. They don't send me a check. I'm just a listener. I am not beholden to anyone. My words have nothing to do with being a "solution" or a "problem" for WBNW. It's just an outside unbiased opinion.

Oh, I don't doubt the words arre honest and sincere...they are just from people who receive a paycheck from the station. My opinions are my own.
