My name is Alex Reimer, and I am 16 years old. I host the "Alex Reimer Show," which airs every Saturday from 4-5 PM on WBNW. I have been hosting the show since late March of this year.
I have also hosted my Red Sox podcast, "Without a Curse," since July of 2005. I have been profiled in The Boston Globe and been a guest on both "The Today Show" and "The Tonight Show" for my work on the podcast.
I just thought I'd chime in here, and state that while yes, WBNW's signal doesn't cover a large area, I have had little problem picking it up throughout the Metrowest area (Needham, Newton, Natick, Wellesley, Wayland, etc). I also have a few listeners who routinely listen to my show in Brookline, and say that the signal comes in pretty good.
There a lot of local "small sized" radio stations in Boston, but in my opinion, what sets WBNW apart, is that unlike others, it has flagship shows with recognizable talent and is run by individuals who are hungry and love the business. Plus, several of the hosts contribute to other areas of the station too.
"Money Matters" with Barry Armstrong, which now has a spin-off Sunday night show on WRKO, and an afternoon edition on WBNW is obviously the straw that stirs the drink. And the other weekday morning financial shows on the station are also widely listened to and well known, as they draw off the "Money Matters" brand.
But the morning sports show hosted by Joey Murr, and the afternoon drive sports show hosted by Danny Picard in my opinion are clear alternatives to what you will hear elsewhere. Plus, I firmly believe that my sports show from 4-5 every Saturday is superior to what you will hear elsewhere in that time slot, which is really all that you can do.
So yes, WBNW's signal is not great, but compared to other stations in its class, it has far more local programming and is well run by people who care. Plus, it also has sister-stations that simulcast its programming, such as 1390 AM Plymouth and 970 AM Southbridge.
