WBOQ sale, format change coming

OK back to WBOQ

There was a time when I was a frequent listener

They lost me 4 years ago

now they are just a station that finally failed that I could not care less about

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it fall......

so a one million dollar purchase in 1988, plus a transmitter relocation and studio gear is worth what in 2022 dollars?

1M in 1988 dollars is about 2.5M today

I don't think it is worth a million, but we;ll see when the documents are filed

I do feel bad for Hank Morse though

Their followers. See the video for Genesis "Jesus He Knows Me".
"I felt so close to Jesus every time I write a
check/ Those TV preachers will get you what you wish/ They're selling tickets to heaven on their big ol' satellite dish"--Tickets to Heaven, 80s novelty song by The Electric Church.

No change so far but it's early...at least via the stream (away from area). Maybe this is an LMA for now and maybe current owners could continue old format on stream for awhile..tho it would be just songs no DJs

Martin Mull offered a few alternatives in his "Jesus Is Easy."

"I tried women / Oh how I tried / I took little boys in leather suits outside and had 'em tied / I tried a poodle, a collie, Kukla Fran and Ollie / But a baby in a manger got me satisfied."

Mostly it is $30 a month donations. Say what you want, that's a huge number of folks that like what EMF offers so much they're willing to pay for it. And don't try saying they're conned into it...no more than NPR cons you into giving.

I think the true take away is they're not complaining or blasting everybody, they're just putting their money where their ears are. Those that dislike EMF and anything religious, it's usually lots of griping and nobody willing to financially support what they want to hear with their dollars. Just saying, they have no upper hand here...those that dislike EMF and other religious broadcasters can do the same thing they do if supporters put their money up. My Dad used to say some complain about what they don't have and some get busy making what they want to happen. So where are you son?

You said what i was about to say until i saw you said it.. lots here and on fb gripe and they have ideas what to do with others money.. do a small minority contribute to an NPR member station or a community station near them? Maybe.. but not on a regular basis id bet

They wanna have their cake and eat it too.. for free

Yes though somehow Entercom/Audacy let 104.9 carry them as well--for a fee--and maybe run local ads.I had heard WEEI-FM promos ("Dale and Holley--afternoons...") on 104.9
In recent years 104.9 had Pats and even some Celtics. That will end with new owners and format.

Yup, 104.9’s stream is still oldies birdfeed (w/NS104.9 jingles/dropins), but with the actual OTA signal, there is no TOH ID, just //107.3’s feed w/ID and—at this point, anyways—everything is in mono!
First checked and noticed the change at about 9:50am, though the RadioInsight article says “began operating the station under an LMA at 10am this morning”: More likely either 6, 7 or 9am.
Now we know why K-love dropped 105.3/1.570!

If you consider oldies to be 1960's and '70s, WBOQ dropped that in 2017 for a no older than '80s, '90s and '00s format that I'd call today's version of gold-based AC, that is still streaming automated on the NS1049 website while the FM signal airs K-Love.

Maybe WBOQ will keep that gold-AC format as Northshore1049 online only, as Wikipedia is now directing WBOQ's website listing to the K-Love national website, and I'm sure that's where K-Love listeners are being directed on-air. The K-Love website will reflect the main programming of the on-air station and will be the site directed to for streaming it, as it does with all their affiliates.
