WBOQ sale, format change coming

Wonder if K-Love will look to move transmitter such that it gets into Boston better than it does today? Could they consider moving back to the Cape Ann site? Has there ever been an effort to move WRBB to a different frequency to avoid the the co-channel interference with WBOQ?

I think covering more land than water was the idea with the move to Topsfield. I don't believe they can move any closer to Boston because of WWLI in the same direction.

I do wonder if the 99.9 translator in Haverhill that still picks up K Love via 89.3 WMSJ in Maine will switch to Air 1 via 107.3 HD2.
 
I overall do not mind that EMF is taking over 104.9. They are a very shrewd organization! My only caveat is that they are national, and not local.

FWIW, I used to listen to WBOQ's Oldies format. They played stuff that no one else would air at all!

Actually, they do. But it is significantly below the income levels they sustain and payable from existing cash surpluses. The on-line financials do not segregate long-term and short-term debt, so it is possible that some / much / all of the debt is pending payments for tower leases and the like.

EMF may not be done acquiring stations in/near Boston.

I'm sure they want their "Air 1" network to be on an analog FM signal in Boston. And they may want another station with a big signal to broadcast "K-Love" in southeastern Massachusetts and especially Cape Cod.

I could see EMF having interest in WXRV-92.5 (which has boosters and translators to improve reception south of Boston) to become "Air-1" and bring that format onto analog FM radio in Boston.

I can also see EMF being interested in buying WPLM-99.1 in Plymouth to give "K-Love" a strong signal in coastal Plymouth County, Cape Cod, and the islands, areas not reached at all by WBOQ (and look for those call letters to change very soon!) and not reached well by WKVB-107.3.

In fact, I believe EMF purchased the three or four other stations formerly under the same ownership as WXRV, which used to simulcast WXRV to northern Worcester country and New Hampshire, converting them to "K-Love", so it wouldn't be entirely "out of the blue" were EMF to buy WXRV to run "Air-1".

Another possible noncommercial purchaser of WPLM might be WGBH, to give their WCRB all-classical format a stronger signal south of Boston, in southeastern Massachusetts, and Cape Cod.

EMF (or any noncommercial broadcaster) buying a couple of more local stations would actually be "salvation" (pardon the pun!) for the remaining commercial radio stations in the market. With fewer commercial stations, the remaining commercial stations might get more revenues since there will be fewer competitors out there to sell commercial time.

WMSJ 89.3 easily covers a 20 mile radius of Portland with K-LOVE.WARX 93.9 Air-1 is barely listenable in Portland. I'm surprised they never tried to get another signal to cover Portland. There must not be any possibilty of a translator in Portland.Bob Bitner recently got a translator on 105.1 that doesn't reach Portland for am WLVP 870 licensed to Gorham.With a better translator EMF would probobly be interested.He mentioned he was trying to sell WLVP.

"Shrewd". Big deal.

I, too, liked WBOQ for their playing of oldies that no one else played. So, yeah, I minded when they switched from oldies to the previous format they just vacated, and I certainly mind that their switching to EMF fare.
