Don't put words in my mouth, WimmexReally? More annoying than a condescending comment about equating "coddling" with respecting First Amendment rights?
Why would I do that?
The First Amendment is more than just simply "free speech".

Anyone remember Talk America, which had a local affiliate? Nuff said! And what makes you such an expert?
My apologies, it was Air America instead! No, I don't remember "TALK AMERICA" what was "TALK AMERICA" ?
Could you look them up for me?
I find the Catholic stations pretty dry, but Evangelicals have had an 80 year head start. Seems a lot is the Rosary, ten male voices doing discussion shows on the evils of birth controlIt's generic non-Denominational and Christian. Any Christian can listen and not be offended.
I remember speaking to a general manager at Salem in Boston about "evangelical programming" in very Catholic Massachusetts. He told me survey's Salem had done, show that 80% of their audience was of a Catholic background. (Albeit, this was before 1060AM and 1150AM.)
I am going to guess that a majority of people in Massachusetts that are listening to K-Love are of Catholic background, simply because there are so many here in New England.
I think many Catholics like "Christian Pop Music" or Praise music.
(You think Catholics are so one-dimensional that they only want to hear about Mary and, say, "Last Rites"? Catholic have the same 10-Commandments and 4 Gospels as the Evangelicals/protestants.)

OK we will stipulate NPR, WGBH Radio and WBUR Radio are liberal leaning and do quite well. And what makes you such an expert?
I count myself as a "liberal", whatever that means these days, and even I think progressive talk radio is dull. A station close to me runs Democracy Now! on a daily basis and it's enough to send me to sleep while driving. It doesn't matter whether or not I agree with the content - it's just so boring and worthy, and it comes close to being "villain of the day" content. One day, it's the prison system in some Texas county, the next day it's the government of some Central Asian dictatorship who we're all supposed to suddenly care deeply about. There's no entertainment value in this type of activist programming, and it's no wonder that whenever it's tried in commercial radio, it's a flop.Washington DC once had a talk station with a
slogan "Left. Right. And Whatever We Want."
It didn't last long.
In late 2008 DC stations were nicknamed McCain 570 and Obama 1260. Former was rebranded Freedom 570. The Obama one stuck around till around the inauguration but later quickly switched to conserv talk due to flagging ratings and a new owner. 1260 soon had the likes of Hannity on.

The constant and perennial problem with liberal talk has been, in the opinion of many industry leaders and programmers, the lack of Limbaugh-like entertaining show hosts.A liberal talk station would not be successful in Boston. Liberal talk in not entertaining to garner listener and advertising support. WRKOs success in its targeted audience is due to conservative programming and hosts.
Much agreed! As much as Rush said he was 'entertainment', it seems he was just that. Conservative talk as a radio format used Rush as a model.

Now, weren't they both not without previous controversy?Talk 1200 was given 2 local hosts, Jay Severin and Jeff Katz, with daily shows.
Severin could be outlandish at times, but he was always entertaining. Now, weren't they both not without previous controversy?
Personally, I can’t stand faith pop or whatever the genre is called. In terms of the “Mary,” saints, and sacraments… Outside of hymns, don’t hear any of the before mentioned on even Catholic stations like WJMJ. It’s a bit insulting if that’s what you think Catholicism and Orthodox are like. And FYI, there are few hymns about sacrament, even marriage. A confirmation or baptismal hymn? Nada. The programming is slanted and presents an Evangelical Protestant view. You'll never hear a song that mentions Mary (unless it's a Christmas song) or any saints or sacraments. So I can picture a Catholic or Eastern Orthodox person not getting anything out that "Christian Pop Music"
