WBOQ to AC?

That’s a shame and it’s another station that I will most likely be avoiding.

Wonder why the switch was made all of a sudden.

All of a sudden? For a standalone station competing against major companies and major market stations for advertising dollars and listenership, I am fairly certain this wasn't all of a sudden. This was a calculated decision that probably was planned for and debated for a lengthy period of time.

Has been in works for six months, they said.I heard Tai's first hour, stuff like George Michael and Matthew Wilder. They did do one 60s tune, Here Comes the Sun.
Some enjoyable talk, news (from an unnamed network), sports, traffic, weather.Sounds like the listeners and advertisers will be pleased.

Yeah many of us grew up with 60s and 70s but now they've moved on to more recent stuff and it should succeed.Even if it isn't called oldies, it is..some stuff from over 30 years ago.

Mom and pop one may call it; focused on N Shore & M Valley and not owned by cookie cutter iHeart.

Must be the unbranded Westwood One feed used on a bunch of low-budget stations that want a national newscast. It's OK but the voice talent is more Ted Baxter than Walter Cronkite. I've heard several laughable mispronunciations from some of those newscasters when that newscast airs here in Connecticut on WNTY/W241CG.

It’s because I was so used to the oldies format all the time.

Remember when this station transmitted in mono and played classical records?

Westwood One News also airs on 600 WICC in Bridgeport. Are you calling WICC low-budget?

I understand that at one time, it was a one-man operation just like WJIB.

Off topic: I wish WRBB would move to internet only so that WBOQ can rimshot Boston.

But Boston can now hear the music WBOQ plays on several other stations with city-grade signals. I could understand your wish when 'BOQ was the closest oldies/classic hits signal available after WODS flipped to CHR, but why would anyone in Boston want to hear the station now?

That wouldn't help WBOQ's signal much in Boston. They would still not be allowed to increase power toward Boston.

WBOQ's directional pattern, nulled toward Boston, is not to protect WRBB. "Class D" FM stations such as WRBB are not provided signal protection by the FCC. WBOQ's pattern is protecting first adjacent full-power stations 105.1 in Providence, RI and 104.7 on Cape Cod, so WBOQ would have to stay the same, very weak in Boston.

Also, since WBOQ's recent format change to AC, the music they're playing can be heard clearly in Boston on stations such as WMJX ("Magic") and WWBX ("Mix"). I also used to try to listen to WBOQ's former oldies/classic hits format in the Boston area sometimes because there was no longer any Boston oldies station, but why listen to AC on the weak WBOQ signal in Boston when there are local full-power stations playing it here?

EDIT: Oops, just saw that this thought was posted on the above post while I was writing this one!

I finally heard the station for the first time with the new format. It was like 4AM and sounded like the station was being voice tracked, go figure! At least they had someone somewhere making it sound local.

It's kinda ironic that 104.1, 104.5, and 104.9 is all Hot AC's now!

WBOQ must have just sealed the deal to carry Pats yesterday. They announced it yesterday on their Facebook page as Breaking News and it said "starting tonight!" (which was game 2 of pre season)
