WBOW AM 1300 DARK?

AM 1300 has been silent for the last several weeks and I've noticed that WBOW has been removed from the legal IDs. Anyone know anything?

No application to go silent is on the Commission's website. Perhaps it's a technical issue with the transmitter. If all that is going to be done is simulcast WIBQ on an inferior frequency, it's not a great loss. It's really been a waste since they dropped sportsradio.

Why do posters on this board say "the station is dark?" TV stations go "dark". radio stations go silent!
1300 lost its transmitter site, and to stay on the air instlaled a makeshift long-wire antenna from the WMGI tower to a tree brnch. Midwest no longer has a competent chief engineer.

Of the 4 AM stations that are supposed to be licensed to Terre Haute, only 1 is on the air which is WPFR on 1480 Khz. The other three frequencies 640, 1230 and 1300 either have a CP on them or in the case of WBOW, just silent. Birach Broadcasting wants to move 640 Khz. to Peotone, IL and the religious broadcaster, Bott Broadcasting, has had a CP for a long time for 1230 Khz. AM radio has almost died in Terre Haute, IN. The hearing for Birach Broadcasting to move to Peotone, IL is supposed to come before the Commission soon. I don't know enough about the FCC rules to predict how it will go. We already have both Catholic and Protestant religious stations in Terre Haute so I doubt if Bott Broadcasting will ever build.

Sorry for my ignorance, I appreciate you telling me the difference. Midwest should've kept Jerry Arnold.
