WBPM or WGNY ?

We may never know for sure, since Arbitron is still releasing ratings for subscribing stations only but I wonder how much the new 92.9 WBPM will hurt WGNY ( Sunrise subscribes Pamal does not.). I have found myself listening to WBPM more often now because although I do enjoy music from the sixties some of WGNY’s music is just too old for this 60year old. I give Van Richie a pass he has been on Hudson Valley radio forever, and he is followed by the excellent Bob O. but the rest of the air staff is horrible. I did enjoy listening to WGNY the past few years, but I think WBPM now has a better music mix.

Good question! As you know, WBPM continues to compete with WGNY. "Fox Oldies" plays a Lot of 1955-64 pre-Beatles stuff and a lack of a doo-wop show. WGNY sounded a lot like CBS-FM when it first hit the airwaves in 1972 until 2005, and WBPM sounds better than WGNY, but it plays a better mix of 60's through 80's songs which is now a "Biggest Hits" station than the new CBS-FM.

What about WEOK/WALL? They still running Scott Shannon's "True Oldies Channel" but it's a total waste. It plays too much music than WGNY and WBPM combined. WEOK/WALL got a big fat zero according to the Arbitron Poughkeepsie books, I hope 1340 and 1390 is going to change. They should bring back a sports station. Maybe WEOK and WALL should flip to the new CBS Sports Radio for 2013. We'll have on my predictions for 2013 soon. I don't know how long if Mark West would last to do mornings on WALL. WGNY, WBPM and WEOK/WALL's "True Oldies Channel" are the three stations are not going to support. Too many competition. Leave the other two stations on FM.

I agree MHV. WBPM is offering a better variety of songs by including tunes from the 60's 70's and 80's. WGNY does do a good job of bringing back the flavor of the 60's. Maybe they can both coexist by offering a different take on the oldies?
It will be interesting to see the ratings when they come out.

I would imagine Mark West would be more that safe as long as he continues to pay for the time slot.
