WBPM's Death Watch

As you may notice about Pamal's cutbacks and layoffs from WROW this week, I'm going to talk about another Pamal station WBPM which is "Classic Hits 92.9" in the HV listening area. Are there any cutbacks and layoffs on leaving many of these on-air talents on this station? I don't see it happening since radio is in its all-time low in the NYSE.

I always enjoyed the "Music Blimp" every Saturday, but It's not even happening, but not yet! I don't see Randy Turner (or Randy Turnip) leaving the station, but I don't really see it happening to this format. But something's wrong with this station is playing all sorts of classic rock just like WPDH, but it's still hurting badly. I enjoyed the station so much, just like CBS-FM with some good music, but it does have Motown, pop, rock and R&B thrown in, but on WBPM's part, it plays just rock and pop, that it! No Motown, no R&B, none of that. I should listen to Aerosmith, AC/DC and others on WBPM. Give me a break.

If any of these people on station like Jack & Andre and a whole bunch of others, I don't see the station going anywhere. This is a huge mess at Pamal, if they can bring CC back to program a radio station, bring back oldies. Or change the call letters or something like that and move WBPM calls back to 94.3 where it belong after this Cumulus cutbacks of leaving many of the air talents and this "Wolf" mess of playing country music from its competitor WRWD. "The Wolf" is still an okay station, but I don't see it changing the format by year's end if WKXP is a ridiculous call letters, I like the WBPM calls a lot better on 94.3 back in the day when it was "B-94", "Rhythm 94.3" and "Cool 94.3" prior to the flip to country, but I like to see it coming back after this horrible mess on 92.9 for a few years when it was oldies.

Does it need to have a hole in the market for an oldies or greatest hits station like CBS-FM does. Either bring back oldies otr bring the greatest hits to the Hudson Valley, or else "Classic Hits 92.9" will not last a ling time if they can bring the WBPM calls back to 94.3 if "The Wolf" dies and this horrible call letters like WKXP, but it needs to get rid off and bring back WBPM just for keeps.

As for the most part, I don't really see it happening. Anyone?

Huh? BPM seems to be doing pretty well. The music has settled in nicely. Jack and Andre are pretty good. There are more and different advertisers on each week, which is really what it's about at the end of the day.

There are many stations with much bigger problems than BPM. CZX? Kiss? The Wolf? RRV? GNY? Any of these are closer to "death".

WBPM is a very good station. Jack and Andre are not going any were. JJ Carter is staying put. Randy Turner is not going any were also. I also have to point out to every one that Albany Broadcasting / Pamal Broadcasting is a very good company and it a good company because they have live people on all of the stations.

How can the the other company like Clear Channel, Cumulus, Citadel, Entercom, and Cox voice track and still keep listeners listening when they are voice tracked?

Don't worry, the station ain't going anywhere, but I like it much better than CBS-FM. But I love the "Music Blimp", this show rules and I'm a hardcore fan of New Wave music and I posted every week on different radio forums. Randy Turner did great with his Saturday night show. I don't like him when he is doing his afternoon drive like the "Rollin' Home Show" and stuff like that. "Music Blimp" rules and it's got high class. ;D

I don't live in the market or know it very well.. but how do YOU know it ain't going anywhere? Isn't Pamal Broadcasting/6 Johnson Road Licenses in a bit of s*&t right now... losing money and letting people go?

every radio group is in a tough spot right now. i don't think it's any more Pamal than CC or Regent or Cox or Cumulus. for that matter, every business is in a tough spot right now. a year from now, the landscape is going to look different then it does today.

Disney, if you love the Music Blimp so much, why don't you email Randy to be his special guest on an episode. Even I would tune in for that!

No thanks! I'm came to see Randy when I was at a Car Show as well as the Hudson Valley Mall a couple of months back, I not gonna be part of an episode, sorry. All I do is listen and posting airchecks from this week's show. That's it! If I can have a chance, I can email and make a request.
