I generally watch WBRE (now Eyewitness) News for the last several years. I used to watch Newswatch 16 but I always felt like they were shouting the news at me. Snedekar finally is what drove me from them for good (the morning news was the last thing I changed to WBRE). I know I am in the minority, but I just want the weather, not a comedy sketch in the morning.
Anyway, it seems to be that WBRE lately has had much more advertising about what they have (I-team, reporters, Accuweather, etc) to offer, and now with them taking over the Fox News at 10, it seems they are trying to make a run at WNEP. For years, it seemed WBRE was resigned to the fact that they would always be a distant 2nd to WNEP, and acted as such. But lately, it seems they are not content with that. Is it possible that they think they have a legit shot of giving WNEP a few sleepless nights? Just an impression I am getting ever since they killed WYOU News.
Is WNEP becoming to content with their position at number 1. Could they run the danger of being too sure of themselves? I constantly hear on WBRE the reporters saying "You heard it hear first" or "Only on Eyewitness News," and these are not cheesy stories they are covering. Unless they are lying, it would seem WBRE is beating WNEP to the punch on some of these stores.
IMHO, I really do not believe they have a shot at WNEP's ratings. They obviously are way out in 1st place and the people that do watch it will never change. They would watch Newswatch 16 if it was a half hour of dead air and say it's the best news they ever saw.
