WBRE's Vince Sweeney & Jason Knapp

Beale's Bites is reporting long-time WBRE weather personality Vince Sweeney and Sports Director Jason Knapp quit on Tuesday, after being told by management they would be canned in a month. Ron Krisulevicz recently took over as news director of both Channels 28 and 22.

This news is quite a shock to me. Jason has been with the station for some time now. Vince has been a mainstay at WBRE for many, many years. These are stupid moves on the part of Nexstar. Despite the two quitting, I blame the crappy management for this idiotic move. You don't get rid of two of the most recognized names on Channel 28...in terms of their length of service to the station. Mehalshick is the only one left with a lengthy tenure at Channel 28. It goes to show you how cheap and stupid Nexstar really is. Sook the Schnook must feel proud.

For those of you who like to complain about TV posts being on this board...there is no Northeast Pennsylvania TV board. This topic should be here instead. Please don't complain that this is a radio-only board...and how TV posts don't belong here. If there was a NEPA TV board, I would have used it.

Oddly enough, for someone who was fired, Jason was doing his show last night (Wednesday). I don't doubt Beale and his tipsters; maybe Jason is working out his contract quietly and insisting he stay until it is up.

From what I've heard...from people who work there...Jason is still on because his contract doesn't end until the end of this month. The same for Vince, but Vince took all his sick leave, and vacation leave. But, they were still fired. Which sucks...but I'm excited about the new change coming to WYOU News.

Well, its official. The local media in NE PA is reporting that Vince Sweeney and Jason Knapp were let go due to a restructuring in the news department. Looks like a lot of changes are in the offing for Nexstar in WB/SCR.

Bigman

More stupid decisions made by Nexstar and Sook the Schnook. At one time, WBRE and WYOU were decent stations. Now, they have been driven into the ground even further. You can thank their former news director Al Zobel for the beginning of Vince's demise. He's the moron who "demoted" Vince to the morning show, and put that geek Fertig on the air.

What's so wrong with Steve Fertig? He's working in Baltimore, a tad better than Wilkes-Barre I might say; did the Mississippi program and is AMS. He's popular down there, does substantive charity work.

I just saw a rumor, stress rumor on Wikipedia that, "Lyndall Stout, the lead female co-anchor at WBRE or Diane Lee, the lead (only) anchor at WYOU will be fired in a "news department restructuring." What is going on over there, are they going to start simu-casting of the evening news as well?

Rumors are also floating on the NEPA TV Media Blog, Beale's Bites, that Lyndall Stout, the lead female co-anchor at WBRE or Diane Lee, the lead (only) anchor at WYOU will be fired in this "news department restructuring
.

Yeah, but look at the source, especially since Wikipedia is self-edited. Beale's often has the dope, but a rumor repeated on a self-edited "encyclopedia" is still a rumor.

That having been said, I'd love to see Candice in the anchor seat and Andy back on the street where he does a better job.

...and that's supposed to mean -- ??? what ???

She's good, she delivers the stories well and she can run circles around Lyndall.

What, you don't recognize italicized ardor when you see it?

I know someone at WBRE and she tells me their is a major change coming to the WBRE station on August 9.Any idea what change will go in effect? She cannot tell me under the privacy of the station.I also notice a new news desk for WYOU,is that permanent?

Well, given how they've been shooting themselves in the foot lately, let me take some guesses:

(1) Save money by selling the cameras and having high school students use camcorders for studio cameras. They give pretty good pictures.

(2) Replace the talent with computer-generated images. Nobody cares who is behind the desk anyway.

(3) Nobody I knows gives a (crap) about all the weather gimmicks. All they want to know is: "Will it rain tomorrow?" Put up a slide with weather and temp and they'll be happy; that will cut the expense of paying Accu-Weather.

(4) Instead of all that happy-talk baloney, get a few cast members from the "One Last Laugh" local comedy club to do one-liners between segments.

(5) The "big" board for sports is kinda small, so call it "Oversized Monitor Sports" and animate Tank McNamara to comment on it.

Since I was the last person to mention Steve Fertig, I assume you are speaking to me. My question, to the person who called him a geek, was "What's wrong with him?" Well, what *is* wrong with him? I'm still waiting for an answer; I don't know the guy but I would still like a substantive answer to my question. As you have chosen to be anonymous, nobody including Steve will be slashing your tires, breaking your windows or stealing your first-born.

Yes, Tom, and we all know that unlike many of us, you have no need to fear retribution or retaliation by any present or future employer. As to Fertig; it's Sunday, my lapsed-Catholic soul is feeling generous, so I'll largely take a pass - at least for now.

Nexstar is on record(a newspaper quote)as saying that Diane Lee is continuing in her present capacity. No other employees were mentioned.

Not so, by a long shot. Remember, I represent the college and if I start spouting off it can get the wrong people angry. Not at me, but at the college. That can affect a lot of things, including news coverage of our events. Then the President tells me to cut it out with the strong stuff on the message boards, or find another place to use my talents.

So, yes, I am in the same boat; different seat, different set of oars.
