WBRU Changes

Brown University's WBRU-FM 95.5 in Providence has an application before the FCC to move its antenna to Johnston, RI, increase antenna height and install a directional antenna. The plot shows about the same signal toward Hahvud's WHRB but I suspect it will probably impinge on that station's already fragile coverage area a bit more. (BTW, this was listed as a "minor" change in an existing facility.)

the station broke Andy Pratt's "Avenging Annie" which led to his switch from Polydor to CBS and his only (minor) hit record.

Yeah, from reading the application on the FCC's CDBS I get the impression WBRU has wanted to do this for a long time. I don't think it'll make a huge difference one way or the other with WHRB. You might see a little less blanketing interference around the old transmitter site but BRU is still gonna scream into downtown Providence with a hefty first-adjacent signal...and WHRB is a medium-sized signal a long distance away from Providence.

Still, it does appear that this will noticeably improve WBRU along the SE corner of CT / SW corner of RI. I know from experience their signal starts getting weak around Exit 3 on I-95 in RI (Ashaway, I think) and gets really bad around the Groton, CT area. A move like this should solidify them over all of RI.

WHRB has never had much coverage in RI due to WBRU anyway, and since moving their tower to Financial Place in Boston, WHRB has had to use a directional antenna which cuts a bit to the southwest to protect WBRU.
