WBRU flipping tomorrow at 5 PM?

I've been listening to WBRU for the last couple hours, and the DJ on the air has been saying that "new management takes over tomorrow at 5 PM." That seems awful fast for a sale to go through.

They've been playing lots of requests, and putting callers on the air to say their goodbyes. It sure sounds real, but I guess we'll know for sure tomorrow at 5.

I cannot help but feel that this is some kind of April Fools joke. They have done this before, apparently. An ownership change does not happen this fast, even in these times. It's too abrupt. We shall see at 5:00 PM.

A true April Fool joke is something quite succinct, which occurs before 12 noon on April 1st. It isnt a long drawn out event which starts on March 27th!

Congrats to WBRU on generating a buzz, but whats truly funny is there will be a station with an imaging switch locally, and you are all quite oblivious to it!!

Jazzy!

:)

Didn't BRU's General Manager recently leave the station? They'll be under new managment tomorrow at 5 when they introduce the new GM.

I've been under the impression that WBRU has the somewhat unusual arrangement of having a professional PROGRAM DIRECTOR (and a horde of sales staff, plus an engineer) but the GENERAL MANAGER is always a student, and therefore turns over regularly.

No. Oblivious would be something quite different. It would be if the imaging switch already took place and no one noticed. Thank you for being quite condescending. Let us know when it takes place in case it's a station no one here pays attention to.

A Good April Fools Joke

WBRU have there sunday program this Saturday ( and Sunday ) and tell everyone there now " Power 95.5 Where Hip Hop live's ". Back to Rock on Monday and tell everyone , APRIL FOOLS .

Or it could be the inception of an LMA or TBA with a new operator paying on a monthly basis to operate the station until a sale is applied for and approved.

Or maybe not.

The popularity of rock radio nationally is in a serious decline. Young adults, the traditonal target audience of a station like WBRU-95.5, is today more likely to listen to rap and hip-hop than rock.

And Providence does not have a high-power FM station programming an urban contemporary format.

Although WBRU has had much success as a rock station, were it to go to 24/7 urban, it probably would be even more successful.

Which is a possibility. Perhaps this afternoon (March 31st), a sale will be announced and the new owner will begin leasing-out all of WBRU-95.5's airtime until becoming the official owner.

Besides, the all-important Spring Arbitron survey period just began.

This has to be a stunt-There have been three blatant clues so far--The last phone caller said that the station had been "your friend and now it will be your buddy"--unusual that a caller would plug the changed format--A liner that says that "Buddy" is "The Music of Your Life" could only have been thought of by someone unaware of the syndicated format of the same name and The hourly ID at 6:00PM said "WBRU, Providence-owned and operated by (spoken very quickly and unintelligible and clearly not the name of the actual licensee) when a transfer of ownership, has not been applied for let alone approved and closed. If they had flipped to anything from Spanish to Adult Standards to Smooth Jazz and had the typical "we're building a new 95.5" type of liner and a dry hourly ID it would have been totally believeable until they admitted what they were up to. I know it could be an LMA/TBA stunting but it just doesn't feel right.
