WBT Programming Changes

I may be a day late on this but what happened to Jason Lewis and where did Doc Washburn come from? Doc seems to be a pretty good host, no complaints.

Glad to have Leo Laporte on, even for only Sunday afternoons. He’s a great tech host and has really grown a great tech media empire with the T. W. I. T. radio/podcast networks.

Does anyone ever listen to the “outdoor show” early Saturday mornings? I think it’s actually a paid infomercial for Jesse Brown’s Outdoors. In fact, most of the weekend shows, especially the real estate & financial shows sound like paid advertisements.

The morning show sounds better without Stacey Simms. If only they could ditch Chuck Roads. Has no one ever had an air check session with this guy? I think he owns the company and sounds the worst out of the crew. Bo is getting better and better every day. He’ll turn out to be a superstar, just watch. When Bo came in as an intern 18 years ago, everyone knew he had talent, even as a kid.

I'll give WBT another couple years. It's on its way out.

I have to disagree QC.

Still one of the top grossing stations in town, strong in their target demos and have no competition to speak of. On top of that they broadcast two of the most popular sports teams in the area.

I think they will be around for some time to come...

Let me be more specific. WBT won't last much longer as right-wing hate talk. Public opinion is changing and the demo is dying off. It is not sustainable long term.

They are slowly changing with the times, less right wing. That's probably better than a knee jerk reaction.

I know he doesn't work for WBT and I believe he retired, but I heard Neil Bortz go off the deep end talking about the President of The United States, how much he hated him and that someone should kill the President. To me that was a total turn off.

Hate radio sells Im sure, but I think people are getting tired of it over all, Boortz should be crawled on the carpet

HembryBridgeJoe,

In today's online world (and offline for that matter) many people refer to any opinions they totally disagree with as being hate speech. It is not really hate, just a 180 degree opposite opinion from the poster.

So in that vein, WBT would be hate talk to most liberals, though that does seem to be changing a bit lately.

I heard it myself, didn't make it up. Believe it or don't it was in my mind equal to inciting a riot.

Joe, Boortz was on WBT each weeknight before "Coast to Coast AM" with George Noory overnights for quite some time. True, he hasn't been WBT on for awhile and is now retired, but he certainly had no use for President Obama and he made that abundantly clear on a regular basis. I would call that hate. By the way, there's no need to come on here and start calling a long-time positive contributor to these boards a "liar". That, and your lack of knowledge, is no way to win friends here.

What about when he called the president a "jerk" repeatedly and then smirked like a kid winning his first spelling bee after doing so?
What about when he declared teacher's unions to be a bigger threat to America that al qaeda? (Proudly printed in one of his idiotic books)
What about when he called Katrina victims "leeches" and "parasites"?
What about when he questioned the courage of the victims of the shooting at Virginia Tech?
What about when he called said that Cynthia McKinney's hairdo made her look like a "ghetto slut"?
What about when he wrote speeches for Georgia's famed segregationist governor Lester Maddox?

Is any of this rising to any level of anything for you? Or are you simply going to pull excuses out of your butt?

I prefer to talk about radio and not politics because politics often creates conflict. Thanks for the kind words. I like to think that I make positive contributions here and elsewhere, so your comment was much appreciated.

Call me dumb (okay don't really) but I will never understand why the fairness doctrine was repealed. On any issue it's all in how you look at it. i'd like to hear both sides to better make up my own mind.

I used to like it when H.A. Thompson or Henry Boggan would put something out there and just ask..."What do YOU think about this?" I think it's more difficult that spouting opinions.

Neal Boortz hated the political agenda of Barrack Obama, and he believed his economic policy was detrimental to capitalism and the free market economy. And he was aggravated that the presidential election was determined by an "uninformed and uneducated electorate" seeking a handout from the federal government. Leading to the decline and destruction of the America as we know it, as envisioned by the founding fathers. To paraphrase his opinion. But while he was economically conservative, he was also socially liberterian. And I found him to be entertaining and engaging as a talk show host, not full of hatred. Sometimes a bit bitter and meanspirited in his personna, but in reality a very nice man. It was all showbusiness, and he was the Talkmaster and the High Priest of the Church of the Painful Truth. And I didn't necessarily agree with him all the time either. But his retirement has left a major void on flagship station WSB, and his show has now been taken over by Herman Cain. But as for WBT these days, they do now seem to be taking a bit more of a lighthearted approach, with Brad and Britt in the afternoons, and Hancock still hanging in there in the evenings. But, as mentioned, to this day, I still miss Hello Henry and H.A. Thompson. But I guess civility no longer generates ratings.
