WBT Sale closing

According to Hancock, the sale of WBT and WLNK to Greater Media closes on Jan 31, and come Feb 1 new ownership takes over.

Wonder what changes if any will take place?

Terra "Firma" Servatius will be promoted to Charlotte's Morning News as cohost to Al Gardener, freeing Stacey Simms to reclaim her title as the Greatest Health Headlines Reporter in the History of WBTV! Katz will move to overnights, providing a slightly more exciting option than George Snoory, while still managing to put your run-of-the mill insomniac into a sleep coma/catatonic state. Larsen moves to weeknights, 6 to 10, as Dr. Laura returns 9 til noon, giving satisfaction to dozens of listeners who have picketed outside the One Julian Price place studios since her ouster in 2002. Hancock gets released on his own recognizance. ;)

So in your scenario, what happens to Hancock? Does he vaporize or return to his former 3 - 6 slot?

My prediction is rather dull. I say there won't be any big changes for at least 1 year.

The reason is it usually takes that long for a company to get a handle on things after a purchase. It's true of other industries besides radio.

John Hancock gets hired by Dave Lingafelt over there at 95.7 the Ride, voice tracking a new midday show from 9 to Noon called "Old Rock and Hancock." Jack Anthony will serve as board op and technical producer. ;D WBT reaches back to the recent past, in a moment of pure nostalgia and reunites Richard Spires and Brad Krantz just in time for the wacky fun that will ensue shortly after the new President takes office. Gerry Vallaincourt will do sports at the top and bottom of the hour via ISDN!

Do you have the same prediction for its sister FM?

The crystal ball is a bit murky on that one. IF you believe the GM, it makes lots of money. Then the network comes into play. If they changed what would happen to that? I won't make any predictions there.

Let me add I have seen new owners or even new management take apart an already successful station with the thought of making it even better! That usually turned out to be a disaster.

Isn't today the last day of ownership for Lincoln Financial Media in Charlotte?

Yes Sir, supposedly so.

And you should hear all the flap going on too.

Another radio station in town has decided to take WBT to task on the air over reporting on the Nick Mackey Controversy.

They (WGIV) even went so far as to call for Raycom to fire Steve Crump from WBTV as the first order of business when they take over.

What timing for WGIV to give publicity to WBT on the air!

And what a circus the whole Mackey debacle is. Hopefully soon he will hide his head in shame and we will never hear of him again.

What they'll do is flip WBT to Oldies. Then, in a rare cross-polarization of radio companies (Don't cross the streams, Egon), Jim & Jen will voicetrack mid-days as "Noon Carolina" and then they'll voicetrack nights as "Nighty-nite Carolina."

Doubt it Egg....Why does Rick Jackson think he'll continue on as GM..Dobt that also!

Oh and to whoever is called for Steve Crump's head....It ain't gonna happen. He's recognized as some of the best talent that WBTV has.
