Just came across them last night with George Norrie, the reason I am on this board is being from Philly PA the last time I ever tuned them in was in the early 70's when they were a music station I think there was a guy Jeff or Geoff Fox at night and they played great top 40 tunes so good I had them on every night, instead of the Philly stations. I totally forgot about them until last night...those were great days, I went to the satellite map to check out their x-mtr nice 3 tower array, one question were these the same towers they used in the early 70's when they were music they seemed stronger back then, also, they also mention a wbt fm in cheste, why do they need a simulcast when wbt am is a real flamethrower....

Yep, same towers (sort of) towers 1 & 3 were rebuilt just like the originals after Hurricane Hugo took them out. You can find pictures of the tower damage on Jim Hawkins radio and broadcasting technology website. I gave him the pictures!

WBT is directional at night in a figure 8 pattern north and south. WBT-FM is used to serve the towns west of Charlotte that are in the market and have trouble hearing WBT at night.

WBT's signal strength is as good as it ever was. Maybe the problem is the general mess the AM band is in these days. HD Radio with it's digital hash on the sidebands isn't helping any!

I'm listening to KMOX tonight. That signal still blasts in here at night. They are doing one of the best oldies shows I have heard called "Route 66".

I am 80 miles South and a bit west of Charlotte....in the woods near Silverstreet. Since night IBOC came on WBT is no longer listenable at night. I am lucky as for the most part I can hear WBT-FM, albeit with a bit of difficulty. I can get no HD to decode on AM at night. WLAC used to until they went directional. Now that WCKY has there HD on.... NO decode.
