WBTT B-97

I don't understand why 97.3 wouldn't go back to the B-97 moniker and bring back that station instead of Radio Now. Would that have really been a good idea?

They can't because:

1) A radio station already has that moniker (B 93 Milwaukee)

http://www.b933fm.com/

2) Perhaps even if they tried to force B 93 to change it, Clear Channel does not own the moniker rights like they do "Kiss" in some markets

When I think of the old B97 the first thing that comes to my mind is "I'm A Milwaukeean" by Guy Herman and the Bubbler Boys.

Just what percentage of the target demo would have any recollection whatsoever of B97?

Not to mention the fact that, as has already been pointed out, B-(insert frequency here) already exists elsewhere in the market.

Plus B97 was not a legendary or very memorable station. There is no reason to resurrect it. It was the station that jumped on the CHR bandwagon in the 80s when there was no room for a fourth CHR. My guess is they would have stayed rock WLPX if they didn't destroy themselves by playing the pop and techno sounding new wave that was on the Burkhart/Abrams "superstars" playlist at the time.

Don't forget, before it was B-97, they actually started out the CHR format as "Hitradio 97X" and kept the WLPX call letters.

As one of the few hardcore B-97 fans who felt heartache back in early 1985 when the station switched to satellite soft AC (I think the first song after the flip might have been by Dedicated to the One I Love by the Mamas and Papas if memory serves), I find it really cool that CHR is back on 97.3 in Milwaukee! Of course back then, I believe the studios were just west of Marquette University not way out practically in the burbs.

I hope CHR does much better on 97.3 this time and isn't this the first time since the early 90s that there have been 2 CHRs in Milwaukee (WKTI and Hot 102)? Didn't 103.7 flip after WKTI had gone strongly Hot AC? My history might be a bit off.
