WBTV - Lenise Ligon Gone?

I know this isn't a TV board...but, I've exhausted every possible internet search (I can think of) and cannot find any news about the departure of Lenise Ligon from WBTV. I heard it was in Friday's Observer...if it was indeed in the print edition, it's not on their website. Anyone with details?

Eric

Her picture and Bio are no longer on the WBTV website.

While I am sure she is a good person, and I wish her well in her future endeavors, I will shed no tears over her departure because she is way below the quality of anchor we have become accustomed to over the years at WBTV.

While I hope not to get flamed over this statement, it is my belief that she had that job only because she was a double checkoff on the EEO report for WBTV. It was not for her talent or on air presentation.

I would like to see Sharon Smith fill the female anchor morning slot; Barbara Pinson ain't bad, though. Lenise Ligon just seemed too giggly and goofy-acting for me, so I won't miss her. Now if John Carter would cut out the screaming dramatics during his sports segments, WBTV would have a top-notch morning show. Just give me the scores and highlights--simple and straight, John, please!

I totally agree with Sharon Smith taking over the female anchor desk, last time Lenise was out for an extended vacation Sharon filled in and did an OUTSTANDING job.

Now John's dramatics don't bother me as much as his constant ravings over the ASU mountaineers. John please remember that you have viewers who are not ASU fans, and yes even some who are WCU Fans that might get offended and the constant ravings over how good ASU is. Showing your support is one thing, constant raving over how your team is the best is way over the top.

Anybody ever hear any details of what happened with Lenise?

Seems like she left mid-week and I don't remember anything being said on air like they usually do with an amiable parting of ways.

Just curious???

Ve have Vays to make you talk you know (submitted in a fake german accent!) ;D ??? ;D

Well I am truly going to miss watching Lenise. She has great personality and presence. Her soothing voice and charming smile brightened my mornings. I've switched to another channel.

I've always found Ms. Ligon very charming but her mistakes on air became quite noticeable.
If you can't read the news without, daily, getting tounge-tied perhaps a live newscast is not
the place to be. I wish her only the best in future endeavors.

Not here, but I wish her well in the future.

Agreed 100%, but she has no professionalism, little talent and constantly mispronounces words and makes many other on the air errors.

Example, she always pronounced the word "Old" and "ode" like she had a permanent cold in her nose.

I always thought her to be pleasant, and friendly, she would most likely be a great person to have as a friend. Just not the person I want to watch on TV, knowing how many really professional people cannot get an on air job any more.

Ligon headlined Mark Washburn's column in the Observer today, 2/9/08 . She was summararily fired without warning and immediately escorted from the building. In Ligon's words, she was "flabergasted." Though Washburn didn't mention it, I'm sure this was Raycom talking, in fact, I'd imagine we can look for many additional firings and surprising resignations from the WBTV staff. I know many on this thread have had unkind words about Ms. Ligon, but personally I have very much enjoyed her work. I will no longer watch WBTV's morning news, which is a shame, since I'm keeping a Nielsen diary this week.

FM...

I was told Friday by a well placed source that WBTV and the other former JP TV Stations are still being operated by Lincoln Financial. Seems Raycom is having trouble selling the TV station they currently own in Richmond. That apparently has to happen for the sale to Raycom to go through.

I was also told that Ms Ligon's contract ended and they decided not to renew it. This sort of thing happens all the time in all sorts of businesses. I don't know Ms Ligon. The only thing we know about her and what happened is from a story in the paper. There are two sides to every story. We don't know and more than likely won't know WBTV's side of the story.

We feel like we know Radio and TV Personalities from the way they appear on the air. I think everyone on this board that has been in the business knows someone that becomes a totally different person once the mic comes on. I am not saying that is the case with Ms Ligon but there had to be a reason she was not renewed.
