WBUF

Between Buffalo gigs, Rivers did some part-time shifts at WEQX. I like his energy, but I really didn't see how his energy fitted in with 'EQX...

Kerry Gray(who used to do PM drive at 101.1 when it was doing alternative as FM 101 The Planet)also spent time with WEQX.

As I've said, Townsquare has other stations in the market that serve that purpose and do well in ratings. You're looking it this as a single station operation. It's not.
When did he say that?
WYRK and BLK should be doing fairly well. WBUF has been a bottom dweller for years. They had moderate success as JACK. The implication is that WBUF serves no useful purpose. It just exists for some ambiguous Digital agenda...

You misread what I'm saying. It has a useful purpose. You just don't know what it is. And no, it's not for a digital agenda.
Yeah, I get it. TS needs to prop up the Stale Beer morning show in what is their biggest market. The format is failing. The Brand Manager was terminated after less than a year on the job. Keep telling everyone about this winning formula...

You didn't answer my question, but I didn't expect you to. Nothing about BigA's comment suggest what you said. All he said was that the station is not a standalone and is used as part of a sales package within the cluster. Hardly a controversial statement.

Additionally, I do not understand why you care so much about the station's poor diary performance. The hand wringing from you is excessive.

What would they put on this frequency? They could revert back to Adult Hits, but I don't think it will necessarily perform better.
It depends on what already makes money.
This is America, home of the free to own 60% of a market. lol
Never be a threat to a sister station.
Adult hits is possible, but
Smooth Jazz just might be a great deliberate act to make money with all the other sister stations while 92.9 becomes the "unique" way to make money off of an exclusive audience...as the return to "Buffalo's unique way to relax".
If it was never a good idea at all, why was it ever done in the first place? (1995's WBUF as WSJZ)

Would TS dump WBUF off ( but maybe keep the calls ) to an overpriced buyer ?

They don't appear to be in sell mode. They just bought Cherry Creek Radio, a group of small market stations in the mountain states.

So I doubt they would sell a station in Buffalo. They are running this station very efficiently, and they're doing very well overall in market revenues. But who would you consider to be an "overpriced buyer?"

Yes, it is in a 3-way tie with WEDG and WHTT in attributed billing. Townsquare has a third of all market billings, while Audacy has just over 45%. Often it is best to look at group billing for a cluster, as the way stations "allocate" revenue within their cluster can be deceptive.

EMF does not "overprice". They have a criteria based on people in the primary coverage area, and that seems to work well in buying stations that are in distress or a forced sale that can't use sales multiples as a price determination point.

im surprised no ones posted in the last 6-8 hours that the pd/afternoon guy, nic rivers was axed today

Because it happened last week.

And was noted then in post #71:

WBUF/Buffalo Brand Manager/Afternooner Nik Rivers Exits

TOWNSQUARE MEDIA Classic Rock WBUF (92.9 BUFFALO'S REAL ROCK)/BUFFALO Brand Manager/afternooner NIK RIVERS has exited. RIVERS, who joined WBUF last OCTOBER, had his position eliminated due to budgetary reasons.

Wweird, wonder why i saw it and thought it happened today. oops

Smooth jazz would not bill as well as active rock or adult hits, which is Townsquare’s prerogative here.

The format had a moment of popularity in the 90s, hence the existence of commercial jazz stations like KTWV LA, KIFM S.D., etc. As you can guess by this station and all of the ones I listed are no longer that, the format fell out of favor and wasn’t commercially viable and most commercial jazz stations have flipped. That format belongs on a non-comm.
