It worked fine! As of midnight, WBUR is now broadcasting on WBUA Tisbury/Martha's Vineyard.

Instead of the usual "Public Radio Remix" from PRX in this time slot, WBUR is showcasing replays of yesterday's popular locally produced programs as special "welcome" programming for WBUA. "On Point" is in progress right now (1:10 AM Saturday morning), "Here and Now" at 2 AM, "Radio Boston" at 3 AM, and I have the honor of being the first local break host on this new simulcast.
 
Engineering types: Is there a spot for a full-power signal on the Vineyard? An LPFM would be limiting for advertising.

(OT: Wish WBUR would go back to BBC overnights. Having two in-market stations play PRX overnight, even different programming, is limiting.)

WMVY wants their new station to be non-commercial and listener supported. They don't want launch a new commercial station. There may be underwriting, but there won't be advertising.

If it will be an LPFM, it would have to be non-commercial anyway. LPFM's can't be commercial per FCC regulations.
 
What would the new callsign be (as Bible Broadcasting Network has filed for the WMVY callsign as of February 12)?

Yes. An LPFM with 100 watts E.R.P. (in Stereo) would cover the island nicely. Local underwriting can offset the cost of operating the station. They could do well if they do it right.
 
A 1000 foot tower is way too expensive for a LP station, and I doubt it's allowed anyway. And certainly the NIMBY's wouldn't be too pleased at that prospect.
 
If you put an LPFM up at 1000', then you're only going to get about 2w of ERP.

They're rated at 100w at 100'. They de-rate the higher you go, like any other class of station.

If it was that simple, every LPFM would be on a mountain top or huge tower and be a class A.
