PRI News Release:

Here and Now Expands National Distribution in Partnership with Public Radio International®
Vibrant news conversations offer strong alternative
to typical midday fare

MINNEAPOLIS, September 21, 2005 — Public Radio International (PRI) announces the addition to its portfolio of the midday news magazine, Here and Now, a lively review of the day's top news stories, produced by WBUR/Boston and hosted by Robin Young. For one energetic hour each weekday, Here and Now combines the best in news journalism with intelligent, broad-ranging conversation to form a fast-paced program that updates the news from the morning and adds important conversations on public policy and foreign affairs, science and technology, and the arts: film, theater, music, food and more. The guest roster boasts such notables as Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Halberstam, professor Anita Hill, actor and director John Malkovich, authors Isabel Allende, Jonathan Safron Foer, Marilyn Robinson, The Wall Street Journal's John Harwood, jazzman Sonny Rollins and actress Jane Fonda. Currently aired on more than 40 stations covering 16% of the country, Here and Now will become available to PRI's 734 affiliate stations coast to coast for broadcast and simulcast streaming on October 1, 2005.

The program is carried on 40 stations nationwide, including KJZZ/Phoenix, WFAE/Charlotte, KUAZ/Tucson, WSHU/Westport (CT), WEVO/Concord (NH), WRKF/Baton Rouge, WTEB/Greenville (NC), KSJK/Ashland (OR), WKAR/East Lansing (MI), KUNI/Cedar Falls (IA), KBMC/Bozeman (MT), WBUR/Boston, WHYY/Philadelphia and WRNI/Providence (RI).

Here and Now has actually been national for four years. The planned launch was supposed to be made public September 15th, 2001. You can guess why it was scuttled.

We (WTEB) started airing that week. This is basically finally the launch to let people know they are national, and now available through PRI.
