WBUT & WISR NAB Crystal Award Nominees

Congratulations to WBUT-AM and WISR-AM in Butler, two of 50 finalists in the 2007 National Association of Broadcasters' Crystal Radio Awards competition recognizing community service. Yunz make us former Pittsburghers proud.

I can understand the calls WBUT and WLER for two stations in Butler.

But having stations whose calls spell BUT-WISR can't be a coincidence. Are those stations owned by a beer distributor? Maybe they should revive the WKEG calls from Little Washington.

Ed, thanks so much for the accolade. We're very proud to be among the finalists. More than that, we're one of the few locally owned and operated stations left in the Pittsburgh market. When I say that, I mean that all four of our owners reside within Butler County. They're very much a part of our community, and there's no way to be more responsive to the needs and wants of your community. And we make money too! We're not a cash cow by any means, but our owners treat us very well, and I'm very pleased and proud to be part of such a wonderful organization.

And Realist...never thought of your little analogy. :D Very clever!

Congrats!
Now, I've ever wondered if somebody ever wanted to use the calls, WFUK?

Thanks for the congrats! As for WFUK, those calls are available as per the FCC website.

Ken, congrats to you and the stations. Let us know if you win!

By accident I punched in the calls WSHT the other day, not thinking what they mean't.

Of course their available!

Thanks a lot guys, for the kudos. Really appreciate it. I forgot to mention that we also have some more good news. Our one AM station, AM 1050 WBUT, cracked the Pittsburgh Arbitrons with a .5 share in the latest book, which came out late last week. Not bad for a very local station that serves Butler County almost exclusively (30 miles north of da Burgh).

Though we're not going after Pittsburgh, it's definitely a shot in the arm for us to pick up a few extra agency bucks.
