WBVD Changes

They think they can compete with a long time established station like WAOA? This should go over like a led baloon. It's a good thing the Melbourne book only comes out twice a year.

I dont know if you can say that about Wa1a any more. Only one of their full time jocks is under 30, their music is stale and they approach the older "soccer mom". I think WBVD will still aim at the younger and hipper and have a good shot at knocking w1a down enough to make their sister station WLRQ shine even more.

How about at least TRYING to be a separate station from XL 106.7??? Based on what I hear and now SEE on the websites, they might as well become a full time simulcast. I'd even bet they're following the same playlist. Check out the links below... even the web site addresses are exactly the same.... and PS... look out Johnny and the remaining people on XL mornings.... could MJ be on his way to another central florida "affilliate"? I don't see why not.

That isnt new with the format switch. Jana has been doing mid-days at BVD for some time now. I personally like her sound.

MJ has another affiliate signed but that's supposedly in Ft. Myers-Naples.

Just to revisit this thread....New ratings.... WAOA 8.2....WBVD 2.5....i guess the "stale music" and jocks over 30 must be doing something right. Congrats to Tony Banks and a bunch of very deserving , hard working and good people on that airstaff.

Waa wwwaaaaaaaaaaa.

This spring book is a real anomaly. A1A kicks around in the 4 share range for at least three years, makes no real programming changes, and all of a sudden it's a 8+ share? Looks like more of a bad sample favoring A1A. 'BVD didn't change the format all that much, and the station still sounds way more like a CHR and 18-34 friendly than A1A does. When A1A is getting a bunch of quarter hours from women over 70, you really have to wonder what's going on...

"anomoly" in radio is defined as an arbitron term used by those who came up on the short end of the stick.

Based on how you have defended A1A and have obvious access to the ratings, you would be well versed in the concept of coming up at the short end of the stick in ratings for quite some time. I would not pin my hopes to one book as history has shown.

Simulcast, clone, or whatev ---- XL is DEEP FRINGE in most of Melbourne / Palm Bay. A new McDonalds near New Haven / Wickham-Minton has a remote from XL at their grand opening - they were having trouble even picking up the station. I learned from that experience, so when Z-88 did a remote at a new Chic-Fil-A on Palm Bay Road, I advised them they would need deep fringe equipment. I became "reception man", and held a deep fringe antenna for them for two hours. Z-88 is a lot closer, but there was an 88.5 just two miles away jamming them. They very astutely bought that 88.5 recently so they could get the Melbourne / Palm Bay audience back.

ZING!

even the web site addresses are exactly the same....

They're both Clear Channel stations, both use the same web applications, and Jana appears on both stations. Duh, it makes sense they'd have the same web addresses, save for the domain names.

The nice thing about BVD Mr. Glory is there are no anomalies...they just keep trending lower and lower and lower...there are no books to pin any hopes upon.

Take a look at the last 5 years of books for A1A Froggie. Outside of this one "anomoly" book, that station has done nothing but decline. Only time will tell.

Whats sad is both stations have lost what made them distinct. WAOA is doing well with old ladies and KISS just plain blows. I hope the new GM @ CC makes some waves over there.

Im out

anyone here remember when wbvd was classic rock? I think that was when that station was at it's prime.
I did like "the beat" because of dj appachy on sunday night and when they would go old school at 5:00 on week days and when they would throw on old school joints on the weekend.
that was damn good. now there just like "xl" and all those other stations. I know "xl" doesn't cover south brevard well but why get rid of the beat? it was a decent format. yet another mistake on cc's part.
and one more thing, what's with there signal? they don't cover all of brevard? now i may be wrong but i have went around brevard with a good radio and had no coverage from bvd north of titusville. well, it was fringed, i'll say that.

"look out Johnny and the remaining people on XL mornings.... could MJ be on his way to another central florida "affilliate"? I don't see why not."

This guy is probably right...more of the same old s****. That's abut as creative as radio gets these days. Plug something in or duplicate it.

You know what? i am listening to some dude who moved from San Fran to Antarctica and put up his onlline radio station.....with no talk and all great music FOR THE JOY OF LISTENING.

Operators don't get it. I don't want to listen to John Boy and Billy, Kid Kraddick, Opie and Dopie, Stern, Imus, Rush, Lex and Terry EVERYWHERE I GO!!! Nor do most of the rest of the remaining listeners of radio in this country.

Dog Farts between songs would be more entertaining that most anything that's on right now. Live and Local doesn't even count for anything anymore. It's just something these CROX, Cheap Channel, Enemacom and the rest like to talk about and they believe their own bull.

Now, with the passage by the FCC of cross ownership, you can absolutely not depend on anything you read, see or hear from the mainstream corporate media.

Doesn't it worry anybody that there is NO contrasting point of view already ... that talk radio is only allowed to be RIGHT...but never even MODERATE OF LEFT??? That the evening news is so surface level, sound-bite reporting and excludes investigative reporting that Americans should get but never will.?? Thank God for PBS and Jim Lerner.

The fact that a radio station burns in one format and switches to another lame one is like Leprosy. It doesn't matter what new face it puts on over the old one, it is still just rotting away.

Lets have a drink to when radio was!

You'd think that the business is being run by Zombies

Atlantis if you hate terrestrial radio programming so much, why don't you buy yourself an HD radio and just listen to music?

I would. The syndicated personalities/shows tend to be good. Plus, they tend to help stations stay financially viable. Most stations could not exist or make decent money if they had to have local personalities on the air all of the time. It's funny how people in radio claim to know exactly what listeners around the country want, but have no clue. Flip on your TV today. How many "live and local" shows do you see? TV seems to be doing fine though. Radio is about entertainment, and most listeners don't give a damn whether the programming they like comes from down the street or across the country.

If liberal talk radio was actually entertaining, it might be successful. Ever hear of Air America? Why do they keep going bankrupt? Because despite being the best personalities liberals have to offer, it's crappy radio. Liberal talk's failure has nothing to do with some corporate conspiracy. If you're a liberal host and actually entertaining -- see Ed Schultz and...umm... -- you can be successful! The problem is that liberalism can't stand up to the criticism callers offer and hosts lose credibility to listeners.
