I am currently listening to the 5 O clock mix (which means they must be two hours ahead) and I'm hearing quite a bit of uptempo hits, mostly with broken beats. It sounds like this will only be a 30 minute mixshow, and if this is the case, since they are playing out the entire extended mix of songs, it's safe to assume that they'll fill the entire mixshow with nothing but uptempo hits. The 5 o clock mixes are extremely similar to how I do my Freeflow Rhythm Club Mixes and Club KDM Mixes.
Maybe they need to do certain mix shows on certain stations here the same way - play the entire extended songs so they can fill up the entire segment rather than always starting to get uptempo then spinning the record back or using echo and killing it with a slower song. Also, sometimes it's better to play an entire song and blending it good at the ends rather than cutting it half way or very quick and being off beat or having funny sounding mix overs due to how the vocals in a chorus are laid out or going into a song with a beat that's much calmer than the other song (example, Ms Officer - Lil Wayne & Bobby Valentino).
The on air people on B97, which is very rhythmic sounding, don't seem to be as animated as those of Power 96 or WiLD 94.9 or the stations we have here, and the station upon first impression feels very laid back, but the music sounds pretty similar to how it's done in Phoenix when it comes to the style of remixes chosen during the 5 o clock mix. While there are other stations around the US playing more house beat driven songs than breakbeat or booty bass influenced songs, our stations in Phoenix always seem to play more of the bass-like remixes of hits rather than the house / dance versions... for some reason. We have 104.7 Kiss FM that sometimes touches a bit on house while doing uptempo hits, but other than that it's mostly stuff with more of a booty bass or break influenced sound. Another thing I notice about B97 is how the beginning intros of many of their songs are sometimes extra long, and they too are also all over the Kid Cudi. I've heard it play there three times so far... I guess we in Phoenix are pretty much the only ones not really giving it attention, outside of Kiss FM.
