Hello,
WBWC, 88.3 fm (also at wbwc.com) will celebrate its 50th anniversary on March 2, 2008. The station first signed on officially on March 2, 1958 with a big program that featured, among others, Cleveland newspaper and radio commentator Sydney Andorn. In celebration, on Sunday evening March 2, 2008, beginning at 6:03 pm (after AP News) our "Golden Age of Rock and Roll Show" will countdown the Top 100 songs from the week of March 2, 1958. Additionally, for the two weeks surrounding our birthday (February 25 - March 9) we're going to occasionally feature some of the hits of 1958. Our 50th anniversary celebration is a year-long on-air event. Throughout each day we're airing "History Moments" which are made up of segments of archived sound as well as new interviews with staff members of the past.
Some of the "History Moments" are informational such as segments featuring our first GM Jim Huhta and sound from Rev. Jesse Jackson's visit to the Baldwin-Wallace college campus. Others are funny, including archived sound from a Pinball Wizard contest recorded live on-air in 1975 and a series of memories I have of "Things That Went Out The Window". If you know someone who worked at WBWC, please have them contact the station. A big party is being planned for the weekend of May 16-18 and we could send information for those who are interested.
Thank you.
