WBXQ GOIN "FROGGY"?

here is a link to the format overview.

http://www.dialglobaltotal.com/overview.php?format=12

I think it's a good move considering the format will focus on the songs that Froggy played during the country boom of the 90s. And it will play a few currents mixed in with all of that gold. But perhaps the little bit of new music won't burn out and wear on people as fast. It's not like it will be played heavily. There is a hole for this format.

And it will help out the Mix because they now have a local midday show.

The final four hours of Classic Rock Q94 was superb. Most radio stations keep people in the dark and just make a shift, but Q94 did it right by giving the listeners along with current and former staff the chance to say goodbye. Who else but Dave Barger would allow such a thing to happen...GENIUS! As for going Froggy? During the first half-hour I didn't hear one single Ribbit, or some stupid swamp name at all. GOOD-LUCK True Country.

It was Classic Rock from Dial Global before. Local morning show before. That local morning show becomes a local midday show 2 doors down. No additional jobs lost. I will note that after listening for the last 24 hours, I don't think the satellite jocks are live. Dial Global seems to be voice-tracking that format.

I noticed they were promoting a twitter site: http://twitter.com/truecountry943
That is a fantastic idea and I think it's really impressive. CBS Radio has been doing that with most of its stations. Twitter, facebook, etc. It's a great way to communicate with the listeners. Let's face it--people don't seem to use the phone anymore--they use social networking sites. I just signed up for twitter and I'm figuring it out.

I was looking at the truecountry943 from launch day (yesterday) and apparently Ken was using the music logs that Dial Global provides to twitter some of the songs coming up in the first hour. That was before they aired. The way he did it made it seem as if the jock was sitting in the local studio and twittering upcoming songs. But if they keep that concept going and twitter local headlines, local events and info, local concert info, etc; it will really help local listeners connect with the satellite delivered station. If Ken hears the satellite jock mention a particular article, he could twitter that and it would seem as though it was actually the jock. I just love the twitter idea. Someone deserves a raise.

Good to hear Restless Heart now. Froggy never played enough of them for me. I can honestly say I would never drop a Restless Heart song off of my log no matter how far behind I was.

Ditto's on the Restless Heart!

I'm new to the market but this endeavor from Mr. Barner has to take a chunk, a considerable chunk of the Froggy station's listeners. I haven't listened all that much to the Frog but what I have heard is silly, repetative, innane, and downright insulting not to mention anoying. "Have a hoppy day" might be fun to some people the first or second time it is aired but c'mon. I don't like frogs anyway...what good are they for...and all they eat is bugs. Not a very warm fuzzy mascot.

As much as you despise Froggy you have to admit it has worked....for 18 years! One thing about a country fan is they are VERY loyal so.... if Mr. Barger is going to take a "considerable" chunk out of Froggy he will have to do better than a satelite feed. At best he will share his listeners as most of his listeners will ....dare I say "Jump" from one station to the other. As an advertiser I would want more for my buck than a shared audience. Without a ratings system in the market anymore it will be difficult to convince a client of a "benefit" when you can't provide solid numbers with a new format.

I'm the "new kid on the block" and I don't wish to correct anyone but from what I have read in the Altoona Mirror, the man's name is Barner and he does a daily talk show called "The Talk Block" in the mornings on one of his AM stations.

Sorry, but it's Barger. Dave Barger, no Barner. Either a misprint or the Altoona Mirror did not get their facts straight. I'm sure it is the first, since he has been mentioned before in the Altoona Mirror about his stations.

I don't know...my wife listens to his show in the morning and she claims he is saying "Barn-ner" just like the Altoona Mirror had it. Again I don't mean to argue but if the man's a station OWNER and TALK SHOW host, it's important to get it right. We're all in the "communications businesses" even if I'm not working right now. I am doing some volunteer work down at the center.

Lets not forget....

Isn't the "briefcase" over there? Didn't someone say he went over there to allegedly sell?

He might. But I'm sure he'll be peeping around the corner at the PD and writing notes to Barger (yes, it really is 'Barger').

If you go to WRTA.COM and look under STAFF, you will see Dave BARGERs name.

What center? Mental health center? :D

I'm "not a new kid on the block" But I am an "older Broadcaster" ...and take it from me....I don't mind being corrected and I have made the same mistake so I too have learned......you need to check your facts first. And as a broadcaster I have also learned...the Newspaper is the LAST PLACE to check your facts. Sheeesh.

Why don't we just call him and ask him. I would doubt that BOTH my wife AND the Altoona Mirror (local paper) are in error.
