WBXY heard on 93.3 today

Just heard it for the first time, I heard The Star 99.5 on 93.3-- only translator I know is the 10 watter in Newberry, but I thought that was a hop for Air1.

Anyone know what's up?

Not sure, but I do know that WJBT holds a CP to upgrade from C2 to C1 at the full 1,000 feet. When they do, this 10-watter will either have to move or will get stomped on.

As an aside, anyone else remember back before the band became all junked up with translators and move-ins? Before 93.3 went on in the Jax area? On most nights, you could listen to "THE POWER PIG" on a car radio in Gainesville. Fun times!

Both WJBT and WFLZ are making moves.

According to radio-locator, 93.3 (W227AV) is a translator for Air1 off Harvey Budd's tower in Newberry.

I also haven't seen any paperwork on the FCC website with regards to transfer of control.

As an aside, when 93.3 is off the air (which it seems to be quite a bit) you can still grab FLZ in Gainesville.

Is WFLZ moving off of Riverview? Or are they just going up past 450m so as to maintain their full Class C and not be downgraded to C0?

Would sooooo much rather hear 93.3 FLZ anytime, anywhere. Please tell me they are not downgrading.

They are moving over to the big stick off Rhodine Road (they have more specifics on the Tampa board)

Going from 99KW/1358' to 97KW/1549'

Looks like CC is also moving 100.7, 101.5, and 103.5 to the same stick. Too late for 103.5, though. They already lost their full C, so they have to cut back to 65kW from the new site :(

Actually, they're upgrading. But so is WPLA. Which means 93.3 will likely become a jumbled mess in the Ocala area.

Regarding hearing WBXY on 93.3, could it have been a possible intermod problem? I remember years ago when WYFB-FM 90.5 began broadcasting at 50kw from the WCJB-TV studio tower, there were some technical problems with the signal being heard on other frequencies. The WYFB-FM antenna was situated at about the 500 foot level of the TV 20 tower. For some reason this caused an intermod problem where WYFB was also heard on 92.1, which at the time was the WFEZ frequency (now WTMG-FM 101.3). Once WYFB moved to its present transmitter site at Graham, the intermod problem was resolved.

Who has the biggest stick/strongest signal in Florida? My guess is 105.9 Sunny in Deland/Orlando and 102.5, the Bone in Tampa/Sarasota. True?

Mark, I'm not sure if it's an intermod problem or not.

This is the first time I've ever heard WBXY on 93.3

93.3 is still playing WBXY making this day #3.

Here are the TX locations...

Definitely not intermod.

If it "definately" isn't an intermod situation, please share what information you may have regarding what it may be? Is the translator actually re-broadcasting WBXY?

Best I can tell it is-- volume is a little lower than WBXY, but still a processed signal. 93.3 is broadcasting in stereo where as WBXY does not.

All normal station ID's are running yet, no mention of the 93.3 translator. I will try to catch the TOH

A man named William Johnson claims to have gained use of the Newberry translator. He has been trying to figure out how to rebroadcast an Urban format from a Lake City LPFM for years. At one point he was trying to lease subcarriers on local station with the intent of translating them to the main channel of the translator, except that is illegal. Most recently, he's been trying to lease unused HD channels to put on translator, which is legal. To date, I don't know if any of his efforts have suceeded. How WBXY might figure into the mix, I don't know, but my guess is that it's a temporary situation until something else happens.

Last week 93.3 had been relaying Air1, which according to FCC and radio-locator they are licensed to do. Perhaps this William Johnson guy just turned a radio on to 99.5 and fed it into the TX?

Could be, but what does he gain from that?
