WBYE Calera

This station plays some good "old school" tunes, and the same pre-recorded I.D's over and over. Is this station purely a hobby business?

WBYE is a ministry. Progressive United Communications, which owns the station, has a couple of other stations, in GA, I think. My dad used to work at WBYE as a DJ back in the 70's. He said he had heard recently that it was the only property PUC owns that is making any money.

When you say old school, do you mean R&B oldies. If not what do they play? Last time I heard them in Cullman, they were doing black gospel.

I heard WBYE about 4 months ago, during PM drive time, passing through on I-65. They were playing 70's & 80's soul & R&B hits, with the same distorted legal I.D repeating over and over. The I.D. had the callsign, city of license, authorized power, and the location of the studio. There were no commercials, and I didn't hear any "ministry" (unless there's a Deacon of Disco) :)

Thought it was cool, since I love hearing 900 WATV.

hmmmmm...I don't know what that was all about, but I live in Calera and the station is still playing black gospel. Also, I've have never heard the station give their authorized power and the location of the studio during their legal ID.

Since it was in the PM drive, could they've been airing their COL, tx power, etc, as a preparation to sign off for the evening?
