WBZ AM on low power?

Of course, if you are in the Boston area you won't notice... I am 90 miles north and it is un-listenable. Anyone know what-up?

From the sound here in Somerville, and the fact that they are not broadcasting in HD right now, I'm going to guess that they're transmitting from their 10kW backup tower by the studios on Soldiers Field Rd. in Allston/Brighton. Probably maintenance or repairs being done on the Hull facility.

Time for the annual paint job? ::)

Yup when I talked to the ce on the last week of july he told me they were gonna paint the towers in a couple of weeks so they must be using the 10kwatter, nothing important programming wise on the weekend

Painting their towers during the day is probably the answer. Last overnight, WBZ was booming, as usual, here into Central Kentucky.

A couple of years ago, WSM in Nashville painted their tower and used their 5 KW backup and short auxillery tower during the day. During that time, they were not heard well outside of the Nashville metro area, but at sundown, they would light up the 50KW into their big tower until sunrise..... That lasted for a couple of weeks while their 800 foot tower was repainted.
