WBZ bringing back Leveille? (Univ Hub)

This GREAT news...

Even if you're not a fan of Steve you have to admit this is a feel-good story during this; the day and age of cost-cutting, penny-pinching and bean-counting in the biz.

To Steve: CONGRATS. To Peter Casey: a nice round of applause and tip of the hat. One has to wonder just HOW MANY favors he had to call in to upper management/corporate to make this happen.

And don't fret about L.D. , I have a feeling he will eventually get his old slot back; or at the very least a regular call-in program in a better daypart.

How do we know that these two didn't threaten to slap WBZ with discrimination lawsuits? I mean, it's what people in this industry (and in local TV news) DO! If you were a discrimination lawyer, a thriving cottage industry could be made out of focusing on this slice of business.

* The Lobell additional 4 days is strange, starting 2 mornings after the Super Bowl? Since the Gill Santos announcement I don't think I've heard him back, just fill-ins.

* Maybe DesMaris would have had a few more advocates had he had a more realistic position on the "W" administration. To say that Bush was doing a good job was ill advised, even if you are a genial host. It just sounded stupid.

* Lovell deserves to set the terms of his broadcast career(as opposed,to Tom Cuddy). Why I don't know, but apparently that's the way it has to be!

Peter Casey deserves no applause. He's just bowing to pressure from advertisers who were concerned about the
threatened boycott. Casey NEVER does anything for principle. It's all about saving his ass. And don't kid yourself
that he's standing up to CBS management in NYC. It only means that some other, less well known, schmoe will
lose his or her job.

But, 4:30 AM Sundays for Lovell Dyett's half-hour show?

Wait a minute here, where is Boston Catholic Radio going? This is terrible news, this was my church service for the week (nothing better than laying in bed, half asleep, and getting in your church obligations done at the same time). Now I'm actually gonna have to drive to my parish? This is insane. BRING BACK BOSTON CATHOLIC RADIO!

I'm very happy Steve will be back. I'm sorry that Pat DesMaris hasn't been reinstated. Does he do a show on another station?
Good question about Boston Catholic Radio. When will that be on? It's the closest I get to church. ;D
I'm sure I won't be the only wondering that, there must be others that tune in, older people who don't get out and about much, they must listen, right? I know my mother did when she was ill and unable to attend services.

The return of Steve and Lovell Dyett was just discussed on WGBH's Beat The Press. Emily Rooney made it clear that she wasn't a LeVeille fan for reasons she wouldn't get into on the air. I seem to remember some sort of kerfuffle she got into with Jay Severin not too long ago, but what went down between her and LeVeille?

The panel also believed that Dyett had been treated rather shabbily BZ management. 4:30 on Sunday mornings, while better than nothing, isn't exactly a prized timeslot. I wonder what will become of Father Reed?

Steve had a history of minor criticism of Emily. But he was punked --I think during the Christmas of '07-- with an insulting card from a faux E.Rooney. I don't know what happened afterward, but he owed her an apology and whether she got it or not, I don't know.

lol, I remember that! He mentioned it later & said it was just a "bit" he was doing, just like the time the doorknob fell off the control room door & he couldn't get it to do the show.

One never knows with Steve, as he has a great sense of humor & perfect delivery. As long as the attitude doesn't get in the way (again), this will be a great ride, second time around.

I found it funny that she expressed genuine shock that listeners would actually protest the firing of an overnight radio personality. Coming from the host of a low-rated public affairs show on WGBH, its a quaint sentiment.

I didn't know that. I guess I didn't hear any shows after he'd said that he got a card that was hostile, and he had later found out she hadn't sent it, somebody else had???

One of the funny things about it is that he's fanatical about not naming TV/radio personalities on-air . And he rarely knocks anybody, Liz Walker and E.Rooney being exceptions, as well as the Globe and Herald (he cancelled both).

and, speaking as an agnostic, it's good to see that rationality and reason ruled the day. So good to have him back. I was asleep early but caught part of the last hour. After having listened to a bit of Grayson on Sunday night/Monday morning, it's good to be rid of Overnight American Radio USA

Grayson had an excellent show last night. Talking about early rock & roll, discussion about guitarists/musicians such as Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Blackmore, much more. A show like Steve might have done in the past, only more technical & not as watered down as Steve would do... Yes, the Lord does work thru his children. Thank God in the heavens above I can still get Jon Grayson on 2 of the remaining 3 stations. :)
