WBZ: Ch-ch-ch Chia Pet fixation

Leading into the 6:45pm sports report tonight (Friday 2/21) they had a Ch-ch-ch Chia Pet commercial. Then, coming out of the sports report they ran the very s-s-s-same Ch-ch-ch Chia Pet commercial. Finally, at 6:58--I kid you not--here c-c-c comes the v-v-v very s-s-s same Ch-ch-ch Chia Pet commercial....A-A-A Again!

New England is S-s-s-s SOLD on WBZ radio because they Grovel for every ad dollar they can.

At least they've put those stupid pet cemetery commercials to rest (pun intended).

Those ads, in TV Version, have been running nightly for the past couple of weeks on Bangor's WABI TV5 local news at 5 and 6PM!!!...also ads for the clapper too!!! Seriously! ...Gotta target that DownEast crowd!!

Since everything they do at WBZ is 'Brought to you by...' or 'Sponsored by...' ("This upcoming sneeze brought to you by Kleenex'), the WBZ weather report should be 'brought to us' by Ch-Ch-Ch Chia Pets if the forecast is for rain. At WBZ, it's all about the Benjamins; it's all about the ads. New England HAS been SOOOOLD on WBZ radio, as dearly departed Gary Lappiere always likes to intone.

Its a target for last minute shoppers. Chia Pet and The Clapper.

Chris, you do know how commercial radio works, right? If not, consider this a free lesson from Professor Mickey37:

It is INDEED about the Benjamins, the Abes, even the Georges.

Would you prefer that all stations "truly" grovel for money during pledge breaks, imploring listeners to run to the phone and pay a little, or a lot, allegedly to keep the news on the air?

Ads are one of the revenue streams that commercial stations, AM or FM, need in order to stay on the air.

There's your lesson. Study hard, there will be a quiz.

from you? LOL

The caricature that AM radio has become is wrapped up in the fact that an--ahem--esteemed station like WBZ needs to be taking spots by Chia Pets and The Clapper. And three of the same stupid spot in 12 minutes makes it even more of a caricature.

If Chia pets and the Clapper want to pay to have their commercials on WBZ, what's the station going to do, turn them down? As long as it's advertising something legal, there's no real issue. Some listeners might not like what's on, or how often it's on, but the spots cover costs.

Come on now! Is there anything more entertaining on all of TV than the old woman turning off her lights with the Clapper? If the Clapper and Ch-ch-chia pets were cheap, I would buy them for everyone because they are so damned funny. But I'm not wasting $19.99 at retailers everywhere. I just can't wait for Christmas to be over (and then the after Christmas sale ads) so that we can return to other annoying commercials.

While we are on annoying, I can't forget to mention the bumper music on everything TV 38 does, especially the news. Ugh. Where is the mute?

Somehow I have missed these on the radio. Must be because it's so easy to change the station.
