WBZ-FM clobbers WEEI-FM in 25-54 demo (Fall 2012)

How long before they make big changes? Several missteps and overconfidence has hurt them. By the way why not let D and C go back to what they did when they were number 1? Mix it up, not just sports. I imagine the NESN thing is restrictive, but at what cost is the TV show to the radio station? It obviously isn't helping their numbers. A drop they use says "never let them see how you make the sausage" good advice. Go back to what made you great guys.

Is it possible that CBS would be interested in syndicating WBZ-FM to other New England markets?

Interested? Probably. But it's not the automatic money-maker that it used to be. The WEEI Radio Network (besides the signals Entercom owns outright) is pretty small. The RED SOX Radio Network is huge, of course, but now the WEEI Radio Network.

New England is just a real provincial place. What plays well in Boston often doesn't play well in a lot of the rest of New England...Rhode Island, the Berkshires, Vermont, New Hampshire north of Concord, and most of Maine really don't care much about what's going on in Boston. Look at the problems Howie Carr had trying to syndicate!

I think if it didn't cost CBS much they certainly wouldn't mind, but my instinct is that it wouldn't be a huge moneymaker for them. Of course, a lot of that would depend heavily on individual contracts and individual salespeople. So without knowing any details, it's hard to say.

WEEI's failure to reach out to that younger demographic 3 years ago has clearly hurt them. As someone who is in there mid 20s and has friends that are in that age bracket, hands down its the Sports Hub over EEI and for the casual sports fan, its the Hub. Idk but to me 98.5 has that edger, younger sound to it and it can be credited to that Bruins Cup run which seemed to really put the Hub into the driver seat and people never went back to EEI. I like Holley but Ordway is awful. A LOT of people were turned off by D & C because of the political rants. But EEI has go to do something soon...Red Sox or not, they are in trouble.

It is time to show Jason Wolfe the door.

Really outside of D&C ( which is now failing ) what moves has he made that worked?

NOTHING he has tried at WRKO has worked yet it looks like WRKO will be the only game in town shortly. RKO should hire Jim and Margery in a heartbeat - or move D&C to 680 and try something new on EEI.

I have doubts if the Boston cluster is making money for Entercom now as that Red Sox contract is killing them.

WRKO is a joke. I agree with the idea of getting Jim and Margery (as I did enjoy listening to them) and switching D & C to RKO but I can't name one person who listens to WRKO on a regular basis. The signal is awful in Southeastern Mass and nobody wants to listen to right wingers for 13 straight hours. Even if the Red Sox are competing this year, that won't save EEI. Mike Adams is a superb guy in person, but I don't know anybody under the age of 40 who tunes him in. But good point on Wolfe, this all falls on him for not taking CBS radio's challenge seriously and now look whats happened....is it to late for Entercom?

I have to say that I liked WEEI much better three or four years ago, of course I'm in the older demographic. I still don't get why Felger and Mazz are considered young. They've both been on the scene for over 20 years. Felger seems to have hit upon the magic quality of being the guy you love to hate. Based on what I've read on other boards, his fans even seem to hate him. But they don't hate him enough to stop listening. I think Callahan had a little of that quality a while back, but not anymore.

D&C were at their best when they were allowed to talk about politics. They made them revert to a straight sports show when their competition is a comedy show that happens to be on a sports station as was the old Imus setup. The Big Show could have been tweaked by cutting down to one guest host instead of two, upgrading the quality of the hosts(no more LJ, Butch, Smerlas, Burton, etc.) and leaving Sheppard on the show. They definitely should have left the Dale & Holley show alone. Mutt and Merloni is about as lame as it gets.

As my son-in-law, a radio personality in Phoenix, says about me, I have no background in radio, but I always seem to have a radio on in the background. I must say that I listen to 'EEI a lot less than I used to. A lot of why I don't listen much more is the celebrity callers. They are the same people who've been calling for years. I'd be entertained if they crapped all over these fools, but they usually let them go. I've heard some of the hosts snidely remark that they been told to be nice to callers. Ergo, Steve from Fall River is on every day.

The gap is partly a "Red Sox factor" (the season ended in late September), but also a "Patriots factor" (the Pats began their season in early September).

Unless the NHL lockout ends soon and the 2012/2013 Boston Bruins' season finally gets underway, I could see a huge drop in ratings for WBZ-98.5 once the Patriots' season ends.

And once Spring Training gets underway, and they begin broadcasting Red Sox games, WEEI-93.7's ratings should spike.

why can't anyone on here just say the sports hub is better, I always here excuses oh well they have pbp patriots bruins etc. Last i checked games are only once a week what about the rest of the week obviously people are listening to the sports hub more. thanks that's my rant of the day.

You can't say it's better because it comes down to personal preference. I've said it before, I'll say it again: there's plenty of room for both The Sports Hub and EEI to be successful.

... With that said, as a listener who prefers EEI, they need to step up their game.
