WBZ in the 60s

I'm having a senior moment (I'm only 51, but hey) and I wonder if somebody here can help me. When I was a kid in the 1960s, I used to listen to WBZ Radio 103 (then so called) evenings when I was on vacation on the Virginia coast.

I was a big fan of both the regular evening liberal talk guy and and guy who followed him, who talked to psychics and crazy interesting people (was that Larry Glick then?).

Anyway, I can't remember the name of the liberal talk host but he used to really get into it with people. I remember he'd have to dump numerous callers with a loop of the "Boston...WBZ... Boston...WBZ" jingle. I think his name was Bruce something... not Bruce Williams (at least not that Bruce Williams).

Anybody help? Are there any airchecks from that era available online?

Thanks!

You may be thinking of Bruce Bradley who was a DJ on WBZ in the 60s and later returned in the early 70s or therabout for a short stint if what's left of my memory serves me. HOWEVER I do believe the person that you are trying to remember is the late Bob Kennedy who also refered to himself as "The Other Bob Kennedy." Hope this helps.

Bruce Bradley never did a talk show on WBZ afaik. He left shortly after they ditched the top 40 format in late '67/early '68. He returned in the late 70s ('78 I think), but still did a music show). Didn't Jerry Williams do nights there around '68/69?

You must mean the late great Dean of Talk Radio, Jerry Williams, who was on WBZ Radio in the 60's during the Vietnam War era and shook up Westinghouse so much that he made Nixon's Enemies List when he gave a copy of a local Vietnam veteran's call to his show to then presidential candidate George McGovern. McGovern played the famous tape across the country as the veteran recounted his painful experience in Vietnam after seeing the results of carpet bombings in Vietnam.
Subsequently, when Jerry contract was up for renewal, even though he was Number One in Boston radio, Group W would not renew his contract because the weasels a Group Wonderful did not want to offend "I am Not a Crook Nixon".

As Jerry Williams would say then, and it applies now, "Wake Up, America !"

In the early 60's WBZ had a talk show called "Contact" hosted by Bob Kennedy. When JFK was President he called himself "the other Bob Kennedy" but dropped that in 1964. It ran from 6 (or when the 6PM news ended) until 8. Bruce Bradley followed doing a jock show.

Later in the 60's WBZ flipped to MOR, with "Calling All Sports" hosted by Guy Mainella after 6, then Jerry Williams doing a talk show at 8. Larry Glick, who had earlier done a 1-5AM show on WMEX, took over the overnight show on WBZ. That lasted will into the 80's.

JERRY Williams! That's it! Thanks so much.

What did he do after WBZ?

Thanks again.
