WBZ Streaming Web Audio Drops Alot?

Anyone else here stream WBZ, particularly in the overnight hours? I usually listen on the web from around 10 P.M. to 5 A.M., & quite frequently the stream drops off for maybe 30 seconds to over a minute or two. And, on some occasions, the audio drops out completely & I have to restart the connection.

This seems to be the only site that I experience this much dropout with, as I do listen on the web to several different stations. What has your experiences been with this?

Did you report this to the WBZ webmaster?

I think an important issue is advertising rates. I'm not certain, but an advertiser on WBZ is going to be charged a premium based on the fact the signal is being streamed and thus reaching a larger audience. If that signal is dropping, I would want my rates adjusted. First, the problem needs to be defined as theirs...not yours.

That's not how it works. OTA commercials cannot, in general, be streamed. Every commercial station I've heard on the web runs either different commercials (sold as "web-only") or no commercials.

I have reported this to the webmasters, program director, engineers & any other relevant contact I could find on their site, over the past couple of months. The first time I emailed, I did get a reply from the company that handles the stream, which was a canned response about deleting cookies, history, etc.

I know they have to send that email out first for people who aren't aware of cleaning up their pc, but as I stated in the email I sent to 'BZ, their site is pretty much the only one that is this bad. So yes, it is not an issue with my pc... I know it isn't a really big deal, but it is aggravating enough to make a fellow tune out for good...

In the early days of radio stations streaming, this type of thing was to be expected, but by now, most stations have these issues ironed out.

Something could be intermittent...

It should be noted that most stations not owned by huge conglomerates are more lax about this rule. I can name about a dozen stations that stream their OTA ads on their streams. (But then, what fun would that be? ;D )

sure 'nuff! All joking aside, I truly wish they would rectify the issue; I like to record the stream when I have to go out, & with all the dropout, it sure makes for an unenjoyable experience, esp. when the stream drops altogether. I come back to find several hours of recorded silence :'(

Funny thing, though; I did mention this problem on the air to Steve in one of my calls a few months ago, & I guess someone at the station was listening, because the problem pretty much got resolved, for a few weeks anyway...

I don't stream them, because they are the ONLY AM station that I can get clearly at home.

WPRO drops out quite a bit, too.

This morning a woman called in the 2:00 hr. & mentioned this problem. Forgive me, I can't recall her name, but she is a sightless church organist, I do remember that. With her situation, it is more than an inconvenience with the stream dropping as it does. I commend Steve for letting her voice her comments over the air.

If enough folks would raise a fuss, maybe they would fix it! :)

No its the AFTRA talent fees that are paid to the persons voicing the spot. AFTRA wants more money if the spot is being streamed. Many AFTRA stations are not seeing enough revenue form their streams to justify the additional spots. Thus no spots.
