WBZ -TV 4 Number One At 11 PM

Latest ratings from the major rating service reports that WBZ Channel 4 is number ONE at 11PM beating out Channel 7 and Channel 5.

How the hell did that happen? Did they hire back the same staff from 1984? The early to mid 80's WBZ was at it's best! They were untouchable. Glad they are back on top.

Maybe Channel 7's Flash has died out. Channel 7 seems to be "The Crime Station" and not the "News Station" as its ads hype. Never seemed more than a video version of the Boston Herald - never a substantial or intellectually challenging news outlet.

Liz, Jack, Bruce, Bob, and Joyce -- all on Eyewitness News NIGHTCAST!!

Brings back memories of WBZ's heydays! I always thought that "Nightcast" was such a cool name when I was in college!

Great lead-ins from CBS, good personalities and the new "WBZ" branding all seem to be working well. IMO, it's not some revolt against 5 or 7 - it's what 4 is doing right. Good for them.

Man that station was on top back then! I lived and went to school in the Providence area. Even in Junior High school my classmates would talk about WBZ News. That's pretty good for a station out of the market and 50 miles away! That would be impressive enough by itself. But then to also have 14 year old kids pay attention and know the personalities by name. That is even more impressive!

WBZ had everything going for them. They were an NBC affiliate when NBC couldn't be beat. That was probably enough to make them number 1. But then when you add in the best talent that the station has ever seen, in addition to a great set and cool theme music done by Edd Kalehoff, it's no surprise that WBZ was top dog back in the day.

I am going to have to start tuning in again to see what they are doing so right lately.

Hey hey you cant beat a great team, it work then and works now. Nothing like a retro team back again with a new network........

What IF they could actually reassemble this team at, say, 6pm? Somehow convince Liz to anchor at 11pm only? Maybe if they donated a bunch of money to Liz's church??

I definitely watch more CBS than any other station (not a big watcher) and that leads me to watch WBZ-TV News, but now I favor it over all the others because it is a professional presentation, for the most part, and I find Ken Barlow to be great at explaining the weather. Besides, who else will keep track of Ken's wedding ring (or is that a signet ring)?

When they brought in the new guy on the weekends, Todd G, I found myself comparing him to Barlow. He can certainly learn a lot from Ken (and Mish)--how a suit should fit (including the proper length of shirt sleeves), how to be the most credible, how to look comfortable. I noticed that they had Ken in over the weekend to deal with the storm.

The fact that Letterman follows the news keeps me watching.

In all seriousness, congratulations to WBZ for their #1 rating. If only they would apply some of that to the TV38 set and bumper music (ouch).

"The CBS primetime helped WBZ 4 out. People don't want to flip"

That has to be it: it can't be the lineup. But maybe I'll be proven wrong with the next book.
