WBZ Weekends: Less News, More Paid Programming??

With the imminent demise of WTKK-96.9, several weekend shows which appeared on WTKK because their producers paid the station for the airtime, will be "homeless".

I wonder if WBZ-1030 might in the weeks to come convert some or all of the hours between 10 A.M. and 6 P.M. on Saturdays and 12 Noon to 7 P.M. on Sundays to paid programming, in part to accommodate the paid programs that will be displaced with WTKK's format change.

What do you think?? Might 'BZ indeed cut back on weekend news for more paid programming??

Except for you, nobody says that paid programming on weekends doesn't work with music on weekdays. That's what WBOQ does and I imagine that there are hundreds more music stations around the US that do the same.

It might work on small-market stations, but I wouldn't see that happening in a PPM market. Research has shown how important weekends are in terms of maintaining your listeners through to Monday morning... you want that radio left on your station on Sunday afternoon so it's still on first thing Monday morning. I can't imagine more of a tune-out for people looking for their usual AC/Hot AC than paid financial planning talk... Let's not even talk about if that happened on a CHR.

It might "work" in little markets where ratings either don't happen or don't matter, but I don't know of any music stations in the top 50 or so markets that are running paid talk on the weekends successfully.

Jeez, I hope so.
Boston needs less news.I mean why let news get in the way of pointless talk, and the almighty dollar?
