WBZK 980 sold

To all those who think that AM is dead. WBZK just sold for $400,000! That's a lot of money for a small corpse. :D

Mike, maybe this is the "greater fool theory" in action. The greater fool theory (also called survivor investing) is the belief held by one who makes a questionable investment, with the assumption that they will be able to sell it later to "a greater fool"; in other words, buying something not because you believe that it is worth the price, but rather because you believe that you will be able to sell it to someone else at an even higher price.

You suggested yourself in a recent post, that if you haven't made it as an AM station already, it's not going to happen.

Mr. Glinter, may be a super nice guy, but he should have talked with Danny Fontana first. I'm afraid he's going to learn a very tough and very costly lesson in the months ahead.

Actually Gilinter is selling the station if I recall correctly. Maybe religion makes some money, I don't know.

Hey if AM station prices fall I just might buy one and live under the tower. They'd have to fall a long way before I could afford even a fixer upper. :'(

Radio stations operated as a hobby or a rich man's toy would bring things back around to the beginnings of radio.

What I saw on rbr.com indicated the Eppersons (Salem Broadcasting) were purchasing it. Probably to double up with 960 in Dallas, NC.

980 was my first station out of college when the Sigmon family owned it. I had a lot of fun working there although it was eight hours per day, seven days per week.

I had to quit to get a day off.

I used to go by the old building after I was married until the Fire Department in York used it for training and tore it down.

I miss the old days, before computers and automation......
