Since no one else has mentioned it......WBZ weekday morning/noon meteorologist Barry Burbank has been sent packing back to weekend duty as "chief weekend meteorologist" which is actually where he started in the first place. His last weekday was yesterday (Wednesday).
Newcomer from Portland, Maine, Todd Gutner, takes over weekday morning/noon forecasts beginning today.
This is what Barry Burbank had to say on the WBZ weather blog yesterday:
"On a personal note, I must relay to you some changes here in the WBZ Weather Department. Today is my last regular appearance on the morning and noon news. I am being switched back to mainly the weekend evening shows plus relief work on various other shows for several more years! Waking up at 1:30am to perform on this shift has been a bit crazy but working with a wonderful crew over the years has made it so much easier. I will miss providing your wakeup weather but I am pleased to be the WBZ chief weekend meteorologist. My colleague, Todd Gutner, will do a superb job as my replacement and I'll see you later in the year when Todd takes some vacation time."
Barry also provides the weekday morning weather reports (on tape) for several radio stations (amongst them,
according to his WBZ website bio: WXLO/Worcester; WWFX, The Pike/Worcester; Oldies98-9/Worcester; Oldies 103; Mix 98.5).
Will he continue to do those or will those end up the responsibility of Todd?? I would imagine Barry gets extra pay for doing those radio forecasts. Former Channel 5 weather guy Mark Rosenthal did alot of radio forecasts in the past as well.
